I am still having trouble with ripping backgrounds, even though I've tried looking at everything on it that I could find. In Peter_AC's, it says open the rom in the tile editor, but it's ALL garbage. How do I rip?

Maybe you should scroll down? Graphics are never at the very top in a ROM.

Sparx, tell me the rom you are trying to rip from.

I bet that it is something that uses compression...

Here are some SS of my GFX-sets I was using for a hack I'm not going to have the time to complete. The Zelda 2-ish is the newest one, I created it earlier tonight.

If anybody is interested in any of these, I'll do the finishing touches on them and release them to the public.

If you want art for your hack specifically, drop me a line, i'm more than happy to try and create what you'd need.

Well, I like the Underground one. I might just have to use that...
Also, the beach is a good one.

DAMMIT!

Okay, getting back on the subject...
I have a couple bgs that I ripped from the smurfs (yes, the smurfs...), and I wanted to see if anyone could make these for me, if that's ok?
here they are.
Our first image for the day is what I call Smurf Mountain, obviously from the Mountain level.
Our next image is from the Title Screen. Personally, I think this would make a great starting level.

So whaddaya people think?

A tileset based off of Chemical Plant Zone. Will I submit it to the ExGFX Workshop? Maybe... maybe not. I don't know.

The water in the pipes is animated. All is made by hand.

I am still adding in some scenery...

The only thing I see wrong with them is the colors (too hard to tell the foreground from the background) and the perspective of the blue buildings. Other than that, it looks fine to me.

Yeah... I am going to brighten or darken the background a bit more and am still trying to get the perspective going right on it. I just don't want to use more colors for the background though since if I do it would screw up the status bar, which I do not want to do...

I might need to extend the side of the buildings by an extra tile... and give some depth to the front buildings, which are the pipe facilities in case you are wondering.

And the pipes can only have the water go left, right, or up. Due to the way I drew it, a black line is part of the animation. It is simple to change it if I wanted to, but to make things look right, I wanted it to look as though whoever owns this factory is sucking the water out of the ocean or lake...

Or, you can just use another Palette for the background instead of using Palette 0 or 1. To fix the perspective on the buildings, try changing the sides of them so the left side has brighter colors than the right side.

...you know, I never thought about that...

Heh, I am just used to using 0 and 1 only for backgrounds.

And now I see what you mean with the shading. I'll fix that right away!

One of the many hand-made ExGFX Sets I'm trying to perfect...
This is my "Doom Balloon" set (before I recently modified it on a crap computer).

I couldn't keep it a secret any longer. This will be a part of my 'Mario World: GFX Boom' hack. Basically a demonstration of each of my sets in action...

I am almost done with this set but I won't release it until my hack is finished. I've also started on my 'Frosty Paradox' set today. It will need some modifications.

I'll update this once I have access to the newest image.

Well I'm hoping someone can help me too as I'm having some major problems with backgrounds, and for some reasons even after following the instructions I get glitchy backgrounds. I don't know how to take pictures inside lunar magic either , so please don't yell at me

Okay I download the file, and I extract it with winzip. I rename the .bin file to ExGFX80. The map16 and map16G files are put in the same file my hack is in.

Next I boot up Lunar Magic and press the mushroom to import the files. That seems to work alright up to that point because I don't get any error messages. I go to Super GFX bypass and check the box that allows me to manipulate the things in there.

I go to FG3, and choose ExGFX80.(This file wasn't there earlier, so I must have done something right)
Nothing happens, no error messages or anything I mean. I go to the add objects button and scroll to Direct Map 16 access. And to my horror I see nothing but glitches.

I will post them if there is some way to take snapshots on lunar magic without digital camera.

Sorry that that is long....but one last thing. Do any of those files give you backgrounds, or are they all foreground. Thank you, and please help if you can.

Did you import the MAP16 files into your ROM with the MAP16 editor?

If not, you should do that- but make sure you import them to an empty page, and then save the changes with F9.

I was on a blank test square with everything cleared away though.

You never inserted the Map16Page files. Open the 16x16 editor, go to page 3 or higher (but not higher than F) and press F3, click yes, press F9, click yes. Now remove the objects in the level and use the Direct Map16 mode in the Object Selection window and go to the page you inserted.

None of the ExGFX sets available here, to my knoledge, use existing mappings in the ROM.

This gives me foreground, do any of the things in the ExGFX workshop give you backgrounds. Or is that were you have to mess around with that YY-CHR program. I know thats for ripping, but do you need it for new backgrounds to.

Yes you need to do it with BGs, just do the same thing with FGs, except use page 12 or higher (1F is the end)
