Fucking nice Ice Man! however, I just don't think the FG goes good with the BG. It just doesn't fit the plains

Maybe green would do for it; or some type of brown, I guess.

Yea, if working on my hack would make any sense, it's screwed up because of a damn bug in LM that screws up something in the Map16 and causes the level not to load or screw up in ZSNES.

Fu, please look at that bug, it's important and could screw up many hacks, if M16-7k is used too much.

Edit: I could save the hack because peter sent me his one, so I didn't have to do Mario, etc again. Smallhacker also said, that it could something be wrong with the level saving routine in LM. =/

Lol, looks more like a plains than a forest.
Excellent graphics and design but the name seems mismatched... I'm still chuckling a bit.

If you'd have read my first post, you'd know that I didn't change the level names at the top. I changed it to Green Fields now, since I had to reinsert all that stuff. It was a pain in the ass to get it fixed.

Edit: New FG for the desert levels and a question.

Do you like this FG?

Here's also an updated FG for the Green Fields.

Does it fit better now?

Well, I like the first FG a lot more than the second.
The second seems less three-dimensional. The first one is great.

Now the green fields FG kinda looks more mossy than grassy

I would make the green a little more green and a little less blue (i.e., make it match the BG colors a little more.) But, nicely done again.

Actually, I like the old Hot Desert foreground better. The new version...just doesn't fit the mood. The sand looks too solid, and it just doesn't have the same dramatic effect of being close to the end of the game.

As for green fields, it does look a little better. However, the rocks below the ground still make it look strange. Make them more dirt-like, add more variety to the ground (IE: tall grass, foreground rocks), and you'll be all set!

Oh, and Fu isn't registered here. I don't think he likes the internets anymore or something.

I find no problem with the way that dirt looks in the fFG. It works fine with the BG for me, especially considering that the original games would use brick FG's and hilly BG's, or what would appear to be wooden ground and plastic-block images in the BG.

Or if the problem is the dirt looks strange, then I say go for it. Makes it more original. =P

For Hot Desert the first FG is better by a landslide... it fits the BG perfectly and it looks more 3D

3D isn't always the best option, though. Remember, good graphics don't make a hack. In fact, they're one of the least important things in terms of enjoying playing them (they help, but they can only help so much). No, what seperates the excellent hacks from the good hacks is the environment. Take the Underground Ruins screenshot, for example. The graphics in there are great. "Metal Knuckles" mentioned that the caterpillars are scary. If the 3D-Esque graphics were replaced with simpler, yet demonic-like ones, it would be all the better if the point was to have a frightening mood. That was just an example that is easier to understand. The point is that deserts are supposed to be hot, mysterious places. Just compare the two, not by graphics, but by how they make you feel ("OMG TH0SE GR4PX R GR8!" is not a feeling). To me at least, the old graphics give a more dark and tense feeling. The new ones are just too bright. Besides, graphics will be the last thing on your mind during gameplay in 97% of levels (the other 3% is comprised of levels where you need to pay attention to patterns or something to advance in the level). You'll just look, be mesmerized for a few seconds and begin playing. Not to say graphics are useless, though. It's just that better-looking graphics aren't always the best option.

If you want a better example of mood making a difference in terms of tiles, consider this. A ghost house. This ghost house has many traps with the intent to surprise you in ir. Which would be the better graphics for it? The incredible-looking 3D-esque ruined building tileset? Or a much-less complicated yet suitable 2D tileset that features many evil objects, such as blood-stained spikes, bones, piles of debris and rotting corpses? Exactly.

CRITICISM, GO!

Okay, firstly. I'd have to say the little... 3D rock thing out infront of the ocean deal you got going on that one screenshot is total crap. You're mixing 2D sprites like Mario into a 3D environment, in my opinion. It's just plain ugly.

I know very well that SMW is a Super Nintendo game, why are you going out of your way to make it look like some sort of Playstation game?

My whole point is, sure. Alot of ROM's decide to add some 3D-ness to their SMW Hacks, but you're going a bit far with it. 3D backgrounds are ok, but the whole... 3D land you walk on thing is a bit much.

I'm not really sure how people can say how your ROM is something along the lines of "A ROM to end all ROMs" and how much you "own the internet" if nobodies even played it yet ( Or at least I don't think. I didn't see a demo link anywhere ). Judging a book by it's cover? Bad idea. I've played plenty of ROM's that looked promising, but otherwise sucked when it came to gameplay.

People who say how nice your ROM is and then say graphics don't make up the game are hypocrites. Enough of that though, I'm not trying to degrade your ROM, because god only knows almost everyone on this forum will beat me in fields of graphics, hacking, plotline, and level design altogether. I'm saying that.. I really really hope you don't decide to try this 3D trick on too many levels.

You get 10 points for eyecandy, thats about it.

Not really. You released the full version sometime in late 2005. I come in and find a storm of bugs within a few hours. You take the hack down, and ask me to test. I do so and send you all the bugs I find. You make more modifications after that and make testing public, with two versions, one with a SMW overworld and one with a SMB3 overworld. I help test that one, too. After that, it died out for no apparent reason (?), and eventually, you come back with new screenshots, showing off the new graphics.

The graphics in this are ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AMAZING.

asdf has a very valid point, though. Just look at ghettoyouth's castles. Those graphics set the mood so damn well it isn't funny.

Hell, even PALETTES can make a difference. Like in SMW Newlands...
The BG palette in my castle easily makes it feel more like a frozen castle. And I'm using the original SMW graphics in that level.

Now, granted, I'd take advantage of my skill if I were as good, but I'd also know when to stay 2D and when to go 3D.

...Which leads me to say, bring back those YI rips :\

I like the rock scene, but yeah, it could be confusing during the game.

Para[syte]'s patch is a patch, applied to LM itself, which changes the M167K sequence to something you can actually enter on most keyboards. Since it's unofficial, there is the chance (though unlikely) that it could introduce bugs, though I haven't heard of any.
