I was playing Metroid Prime for a good 2 hours today, starting from 5% in the Chozo Ruins (15 missiles, 1 energy tank). After about 2 hours I had 90 missiles, 7 energy tanks, had just beaten Thardus, and had 50% of scannables scanned. I purposely didn't use any save points this time. Is it just me, or are most people a good 3.5-4 hours into that game by that time? I don't know how I shaved off so much time, I think it was from not saving.

It's pretty simple; if you never got to a save point, you naturally take a faster route, since you don't go to a save point and go back at any time.

I normally just go to a save point if it is literally RIGHT THERE... if not, I just continue what I was doing.

Then again, this is coming from a person who likes to get everything out of order (Space jump first, early plasma beam, early Phason Mines... ), so sequence REALLY never meant anything to me in the first place

Either way... its perfectly logical to think that taking a little time out of your way to save would add up over time...

In addition to what Alastor said, saving takes a bit of time. However, those who are using saves to get the best time possible can always reload. This is handy for doing those high-precision tricks and glitches, or to reduce frustration.

If its close, I'll use it. If I am given the option to save during my game, I'll save.

Usually, I go to a menu and save if available. Sometimes, I'll load, play for an hour and not save. That is for games that I can't possibly do better (Level 100 in Kingdom Hearts, GTA: VC complete, stuff like that).

If I start a new game? I know the paths already and know when I should save, so I don't waste all my time trying to save...
