So many awesome memories. Some of that stuff, looking back on it, is so ridiculous that it makes Vin Diesel jokes run in fear. BEAT THE ELITE 4 273 TIMES IN A ROW WITHOUT SAVING AND YOU'LL GET 39 MIST STONES. USE THEM TO GET INTO BILL'S SECRET GARDEN AND CATCH MEWTHREE lolol. Good times.

If only there was a Pokemon rumor generator site...

Shouldn't this be in General Gaming or Pokrmon Hacking?
I remember making a database of all the glitch moves that could be learned, and cataloging them. Can't find it now; I think it got wiped. But still, I love screwing with all the Glitch Pokemon, seeing which ones can wipe entire teams with one shot, or what can stand up to an Exploding Golem and what-not.

Ugh, yes I do. I loved how they all tended to mention beating the Elite 4 5348357984578 times without talking to anyone, since you had to talk to people to fight them.

And that grass outside Palette Town, and one other place where trees randomly appeared and disappeared. That bugged the crap out of me. Then I finally got a Gameshark and used cheats to get there, and the game just crashed.

I remember when I caught Missingno for the first time. That was fun. For some reason, it always evolved to Kangaskhan when I went level up.

My little brother encounter a tariner in the same area. A challenger, I think. All his pokemon were glitched.

The game never crashed for me. That was because I caught the Missingno with the 'M' name.

Missingo only crashes the game, when it is put into box.
And yes, it evolves always to Kangashkhan. (I have a flying one in my Crystal )

But I put it in a box. There´re several Missinos'. Only one doesn´t crash the game when it´s put into a box.

Or does it crash the game if it has evolved to a Kangaskhan. And I think that this should be moved.

There's even a nice article about Missingno on Wikipedia

Have there beem any other glitch, that caused so many rumours? Funny how people was saying it was impossible to get Mew for years, yet one day someone found a glitch... just two months before I got Ruby/Sapphire xD. I also posted the glitch on thoose forums... eh well. People didn't belive me back then. xD Then, with awful grammar back then... ugh.

Meh, amazing how people are excited over a few glitches. Being used to glitces, and even causing themself now it's not as fun now.

There's a technical reason why it evolves to Kangashkhan, I think Kangashkhan is Pokémon number 001. And missingno is 0, or the game interpret it as 0. And when Pokémon evolves, their number just technically increases with 1. Theoritcally, you could be able to force a evolution on a fully evolved Pokémon, and it would turn into a totally diffrent one, though no point doing that really.

Yes, the Pokémon aren't ordered after their ID... hell the monster systems are diffrent enough between English and Japanse that's it's impossible to trade between them without causing glitches. Could be said that it is possible to trade between Ruby and Japanse Sapphire or along the line of that now.

Meh, I hadn't hacked the game myself much apart from forcing a trade between them... which is always fun to watch.

Yeah, now I remember that I´ve heard that before. Don´t remember who told me, though.

I saved that article.

Edit: " 'M'. This Pokémon, known as 'M, evolves into a Kangaskhan when it is given a Rare Candy. 'M is also commonly referred to as "'M Block"."

There we have it.

'Wow' is all I can say when referring to that thread.

Then I think after the first one was closed, you made another one.

Heh, yeah. I remember I didn't believe him because of some grammatical errors that made it sound totally different.

I wonder about a few things they mention on that wiki... They say that the game auto-saves when you fight one, but I haven't seen anything to support that. What it looks like to me is the game is trying to load a compressed image, except the data isn't actually an image. This accounts for most of the bugs including the garbled image and item duplication (random writes to various places in memory). IIRC Stadium would briefly say the game was saving, but it was probably just writing to SRAM randomly (hence the permenant hall of fame corruption). Also I think Missingno was just a really early test Pokémon; they just threw in random data to test things, didn't bother giving it some things (like an image), and forgot to take it out of the source code.

Best thing I remember was making a super-Pokémon with that and another glitch. Can't remember precisely how it goes, but I think was something like this... Catch a Missingno > level 100, teach it some moves, level it up to like 230 or so, and evolve it into Khangaskhan. It drops down to level 192, teach it more cool moves. It always returns to level 192 rather than 100 like most do. Then level it up to ~230 again (using Rare Candy) and get it really weak (~20 HP), and win a battle. It drops down to 192 again, and its HP drops to match, but the game doesn't do any minimum range check and uses unsigned values for HP... you end up with like 65000/400 HP. Just don't heal it, you can use it against wild, trainers, and link battles if you're a cheater.

No, I only made one... although the insults hit me pretty hard back then. But I was right all the way along.

And heh, looking back at that thread... well, I was kinda laughing how some people acted like every bug in the game was found. xD

And yes, there's some oddity when you do it through Stadium. I seen it saving at such things, which makes me wonder if it's a full GB emulator that is just locked for the Pokémon game... meh. I also succed crashing the game once through a ditty related glitch, Pokémon stadium told me that the game was corrupted, and that I should start over... which it wasn't.

I didn´t know that. It sounds interesting so maybe I should try it on a ROM. I bet they removed it from FireRed and I don´t want to risk my save file.

Anyone remember/know this one?

First, make sure you haven't beaten these trainers: The Youngster by Bill's House with a Slowpoke; The Gambler outside of Saffron City (on the route to Lavendar Town) He's facing the door of the underground tunnel. Make sure you have: A few Pokeballs (bring different kinds, Mew could avoid Great Balls for me); A Pokemon that can defeat a lvl 14 (or so) Slowpoke; A Pokemon that can weaken a lvl 7 Mew; A Pokemon that knows Fly.
First, go right outside the entrance of the underground tunnel on the right side of Saffron City. Save. Take a step forward (toward the Gambler) and immediately pause. Go to your Pokemon and select your Flying Pokemon. Fly to Cerulean City. Right as you're getting ready to fly, the Gambler will notice you and the little exclamation point will appear above his head. But right after, you will fly to Cerulean.
Now that you're in Cerulean, you'll notice that your Pause button has been disabled. The game thinks you're in a battle. Now go up to the route right before Bill's house and find the boy with a Slowpoke. Before fighting him, go up until you can't go any further (the trees will prevent you from going further.) Then walk into his eyesight. (You need to be by the trees since for some reason, you need him to walk to you for this to work right. If you don't give him the room to walk up, your game will crash.) If you accidently walk right in front of him, just quickly shut off the game and start over (this happened to me so often it wasn't funny.) After the battle, Fly to Lavendar Town (your Pause button will work again.) I don't advice saving since you're right in the middle of a glitch. Now walk over to the left exit of town. Immediately when the music changes to the route's tune, the screen will flash like you've found a wild Pokemon. A lvl 7 Mew will appear, and you'll have the chance to catch it. All it knows is Pound, so it should be pretty easy to weaken.

The Missingno Item Duplication trick rocks, too.

I'm pretty sure it's a GB CPU emulator, though it might only be complete enough to run Pokémon and whatever else happens to work. I doubt it bothers to emulate the various memory controllers and cartridge types, since it's using a real cartridge. Though for speed reasons it might copy the ROM into memory (or even have it stored in the game, and only use the cartridge for verification and saving). Unlike G/S, R/B were not designed to be compatible, so the emulator had to use a few hacks. I imagine one such hack was to simply show 'saving...' on any access to the save file, which is why it would pop up if you did other things like erased the file (or crashed the game in some cases).

Hmm, maybe some Missingnos you caught were different than the others.

Or the glitch scrambled the pokemon data.
