I think it´s mostly commercialism and then caring. I´m not religious so I just think of something else when the others read the bible.

Like "Just get to the presents already.".

I´ll probably wish for a DS game. I don´t know what else yet.

A fancy way of saying "December". Okay, not really, it's a certain amount of time before christmas which pretty much concists of December anyway.

What I want for christmas? A leave, definitly, but since I'm not getting that...

A laptop, I guess. We have annoyingly limited internet access in the army. And, um, GBA/DS games or something, since I can't bring a console up there. A book, maybe.

FYI Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and represents a season in the Christian calendar of anticipation for the birth of Christ.

As for what I want, only two things.
1) A phone call from my favorite Georgia girl
2) $$$ so I can get me a new phone to get the phone call.

other than that, i'm gonna be flat broke so any form of money would be good.

Anime Boxsets. A lot of them. Perferrably off eBay or Amazon so they don't kill my parents funds.

A gp2x. As soon as some decent emulators start appearing, I am ordering one.

A SNES emulator is already available for it, and thats pretty fucking good considering the console has only just been released a week ago.

I am finally back, and in order of importance, my Christmas List is as follows:

- My Girlfriend (lol, just money to go see her)
- Mini-Fridge (what room is complete without a mini fridge?)
- Computer stuff like a second HDD, some ram.
- Tony Hawk American Wasteland (got all the other games, so why not)
- Clothes
- Random stuff that the rest of the relatives give me.
- Free movies for a year passes that my cousin always gets for me that I use like twice.

Advent comes from Latin pre-fix ad and verb venio. The infinitive of venio, venire means "to come". Ad which is a preposition means up to or near to. Advent, there for means "near the coming" which of course is a hint at the coming of the Christ's birthday (oddly, modern Bible scholars put the real birthday of Jesus of Nazareth in April as the December holidays are made to coincide with pagan Yule celebrations).

For Christmas I've thusly asked for:

More knitting equipment
Clothing
Books by Marquis De Sade, Yukio Mishima, Virgil, Gerald Diamond (author of Guns, Germs and Steel)
Name of the Rose, the St. Augustine Reader, Summa Theologica, Catechism of the Catholic Church, Oxford Dictionary of Saints, Select Readings of the Church Fathers, Who Killed Chaucer?, Canterbury Tales (with old English), Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin (or Bandits of the Marsh)
CDs by Elliott Smith, original vinyl of King Crimson's "In the Court of the Crimson King", Johnny Cash's American Records series, Metric
Digital Camera
A suit

I think that the swedish word for Christmas "Jul" comes from the word Yule but I´m not sure. They sound similar.

Interesting history there.

Indeed, it does!

Jul and other Scandinavian counterparts come from the Teuto-Celtic Yule celebrations. Although I've read competing theories about the basis of the Christmas tree. One of which is an Orientalist theory that it is a way to honour older pagan gods in the Middle East. The more accepted is that it is based on a European pagan traditions. I'll have to find my book on Christian and European symbology and find out...

For Christams I want a damn Laptop so I could just work there instead of waiting for the rest of the people to get off. Also, enough money for a phone and a plan for it.

This is all I can really think of off the top of my head. And yes, this is the first time I'm going fully hardcore dork for christmas. Last year I bought a little present to myself of really geeky shit (soldering iron, eprom burner, et cetera) but this year it's all going to be nerdy. I'm turning in to a total loser.. and I love it.

The bottom items of the list are tentative... I'm not so sure if I would actually wear something so dorky in public, but who knows. I'm definetly going to pick up the top two items though, those are pretty much must have and fairly cheap. Maybe I'll get myself a bottle of vodka or something. I don't booze much anymore, but I know I'm going to go looking for a stiff drink when the holidays come around.

I don't expect anything, this reminds me to do my shopping soon.
I may just buy some little things for myself. I have about 5k to blow this season and I'm thinking about getting some nice things.

-Baby toys for Yuri
-Some sort of jewelwry for the miss
-A new hd for me

Fairly simple.

I'll have to ask some relatives what they would like as well.

-Black iPod video 30GB! Got this one early. Scratch that off my list.
-iTunes gift certificates so I can get lots of videos (since I can't figure out how to get them on otherwise )
-Moneymoneymoneymoney...MONEY!

I prefer getting money and then buying things as I want them. Since my parents have pretty bad taste with a lot of things.

I wanted to build myself a kickass computer, spent $1800 yesterday(I'm so broke now.) and I didn't even buy a new video card to replace my superawesome PCI 9200 Radeon.

So, for Christmas, I want a 6800GS or a 7800 GT - and, maybe, a 12 gauge.

I don't really want much. I mean not like a lot of presents. I just want a Xbox 360, the good one, not the Core System, and Project Gotham Racing 3. And, of course, a normal AV cable since the good Xbox 360 only comes with a HD cable. I want PGR3 because it has great graphics, and I love racing games. I wouldn't mind having Need For Speed Most Wanted either.
