Absolutely not. Power button's a fair distance above the d-pad and isn't as thick.

I've turned the DS off a couple times playing Marion 64, when I switched from the touch screen to the pad to climb a pole. Pushed the power button instead of up. That was annoying. Haven't had a problem with it anywhere else, though.

Also, I agree that PictoChat is worthless most of the time. At least, I've never, ever found a use for it, or had any fun with it. Maybe if I were at some kind of con or whatnot where there were lots of random folk with DS's, but how often does that happen? I don't go to cons.

Having to turn off the DS every time you exit the menu, whether you changed something or not, is a bit annoying, I agree. It also never comes up because I almost never have to change the options.

The carts are not fragile. They can even take more of a fall than N64 or SNES carts because they're so light.

edit: I see I typed "Marion" but I've decided to leave it that way.

Pictochat would probably be fun to play around with in a high-population environment... like university. I should do that one day just to see if I hit paydirt. Then you send off Mario Kart to everyone and have a little game. Can't see the harm.

On an airplane, start drawing pictures of planes going up in flames and crashing and people dying, bombs, etc. Wait for someone else to freak out or start crying. That dude has pictochat open.

And then the real plane crashes because of interference from the DS.

I think the problem here is you biting things.

I hit it with my cainine (Urm, is that the name of it?) which is fairly sharp, and it was a quick chomp in a anger, because there was nothing nearby to hit.

And I've never accidently turned off my DS.

You were angry and there was nothing around to hit, so you bit your DS? Who the hell relieves anger by biting inedible objects?

I chew on plastic straws all the time so yeah... But anyways are there any good games for the DS besides Mario Kart DS? And I mean actual games not stupid kiddy shit like Nintendogs.

Do you do it to relieve anger? And are they thick and expensive?

Regarding good games, I highly recommend Kirby, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, and Meteos. And if you're so concerned about 'kiddy shit,' why did you buy a system from a company that has a reputation for 'kiddy' games?

I'm feeling lazy today, so I didn't read the topic before posting. This is the first time I've done so; sue me. I've wanted to write out a pros/cons now that I have my DS, so here we go.

Kahn's
Before I got my hands on one, I imagined the DS to feel like an SNES controller with a screen in the middle and a flip-top lid. I was very wrong, and a bit dissapointed. The face buttons are too small and too close together - while my thumb fits comfortably on an SNES or PS1/2 controller, I struggle with the DS. I also dislike the "cliky" aspect of the buttons and D-Pad, they instill in me a feeling that I'll break them if I press to rapidly or too often. The shoulder buttons are fine, considering this is a handheld, they're actually quite comfortable. With Nintendo stressing the creative abilities of the DS, I also would have liked to see a customizable internal menu (moreso than just picking a background color) where you can change the shape, style and location of the buttons, maybe even draw a background picture or - using WiFi - download them. I imagined the GUI to be almost like a primitive desktop. There's nothing wrong with the menu, I just expected more. I must also echo the sentiment that I worry about the structural integrity of the game cards, specifically that the connectors are exposed. Granted, I'm careful, but as it stands, I'm more gentle with the game cards than I am with CDs.

Prose
Not a single dead pixel, first off. I was worried there might be one or two, but I think that was just scaremongering by PSP fanboys. In my hands, and to look at, the DS just looks and feels really, really cool - the geeky giddy factor (or GGF, as I like to call it) far outweighs even the Video iPod. I didn't expect the 3D graphics to look nearly as nice as they do in the few games I've played so far, and even more, I didn't expect the graphics in general to look so clean. Like, PS1/2 and GBA seem a bit rough, a bit jaggy in the graphical department. There's not a trace of that in my DS, it looks really crisp. I also didn't expect the sound quality to be as terrific as it is - using earbuds helps, of course, but that's true of almost any sound-emitting device. The tune that plays while you're searching the local area for games to play is mesmerizing with earbuds in (the sound travels not just from left bud to right bud, but it feels like the sound is circling your head -- my GBA couldn't pull that off). The sound, also, seems really clean and crisp to me, very modern. The volume range is also nice, it can become much quieter or much louder than the GBA, although the volume control is very delicate and takes some getting used to. The AC adapter and the unit as a whole also feel very solid, very sturdy and durable, the material the system is made out of feels very high-quality, there's something tactile about it, too -- you just want to touch it...which, I guess, given their "Touching is Good" campaign, seems like it should've been more obvious to me than it was.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the DS (especially since I imported a Graphite Black system, which is unique among the Platinums and Blues so common here in the States) and can't wait to play more games. My fingers are crossed for Golden Sun 3...

At least, the DS is not like the GBASP. The L and R buttons are a bit bigger.

Oh yeah, the volume control. That's something that bugs me, and bugged me on the GBA too. The slider is neat and all, but what's the point? It's harder to set precisely than the little wheels of old, and easier to jostle out of place. Also, I think the minimum volume before it cuts out could be a lot lower. ajkl;fld;kasjfdsl;afjla;sf
The volume problems are the only ones that consistently bug me.

I almost never adjust the volume, so there you go. Always just a bit below max.

Volume's max or near max for me, but it's not overly loud or anything so it works well.

One question... is it possible to use any headphones (say, iPod ones) on the DS? Wouldn't hurt.

Indeed. I frequently wear headphones when playing AWDS, because... The sound quality is a lot better.

If your thumb os slipping from the D-Pad to the power button, and you held it there for the second required to power it off, then I salute you. You have the greasiest fingers in existence, and you aren't that fast either.

Now, Zem has a unique case. This has happened to me with the ABXY buttons.

On the topic of Game Cards: These things are durable shit. I would make armor out of them if I could. I've had my extra copy of Hunters thrown at a wall, stomped on, run over, and put in the wash, and it still works. Go Nintendo.
