| Today, I was supposed to do the following...
Get on a plane in Bloomington, Illinois destined for Chicago O'Hare. Get on a plane to Washington, D.C. Get on a plane to State College, P.A. Instead, this is what happened... We arrived at the Bloomington airport to find a clusterfuck. Due to a combination of fog and massive overbooking, O'Hare was turning away flights. Our flight had been delayed four hours and we would surely miss the flight out of O'Hare if we waited for that or took the bus they were offering instead. We had been in central Illinois for a massive gathering of friends, and luckily two of said friends (Ernie and Ai) live in Chicago and were leaving the same day as us, so we frantically called them and they took us to O'Hare, where we were greeted by an even bigger clusterfuck (but at least the lines were moving). If the flight to D.C. had been leaving on time, we would have probably made the rest of our trip just fine, but it was delayed 3 hours, so we would have missed the connecting flight back home. We got rebooked for the O'Hare -> D.C. -> State College trip tomorrow, and we're staying with Ernie and Ai until then. So at least we get to hang out with them, and we got a pretty good dinner, and they have a kitty too. 
Hopefully things will go better tomorrow. At least the trip out here happened as planned... |

| As far as I know, 2 delayed flights. We don't know whether the flight from D.C. to State College left as planned. For all we know, that one could have been pushed back too, but we figured we would rather not go to D.C. and then find out we would be stuck there overnight. We thought it was better to stay with friends (who will drive us to the airport tomorrow) than have to worry about getting a hotel room and whatnot.
Luckily, I requested off work tomorrow, but the reason for that was because we were scheduled to arrive home after 11 p.m. and I didn't think I'd want to get up and go to work after that. Tomorrow's D.C. to State College flight is scheduled for the exact same time. Argh. Oh well. I guess I'll just try to sleep well tonight. |

| Doesn't beat what happened with my parents a few years ago in Florida. They were trying to come back at the end of spring break, and wouldn't you know it... the flight was overbooked.
Of course, instead of crossing their fingers, they turned around and sold the tickets to the airline, got tickets for the next day AND cash, a free night at the hotel and $50 meal vouchers. That led to one of the best steaks my dad's ever had. XD And even though he missed a day of work, the cash more than made up for it. Bad luck, but if the same thing happens tomorrow then hit up the airline for anything they're willing to give you.  |

| Colin - Wow. That is impressive. Talk about making the best of the situation. We did get vouchers for a discounted hotel room in Chicago, but that was about it. We would have had to arrange reservations at a place near the hotel with provided transportation.
I'm actually rather lucky that we got the flights rescheduled for free. We hadn't checked in at Bloomington at all, and the employee at O'Hare said that this may have voided our tickets, but she looked us up and it turned out not to be a problem. (I also explained to her that we basically COULDN'T check in because there was a humongous line that did not move at all...and they were telling us to take a bus anyway.) |

| The airlines are the ones who are causing you the inconvenience so they should make it up to you in some way, shape or form. I'd do the same thing if I was in that situation.
And I think they had to give you the flight for free since with all the delays, there was no way in hell you could make any of your connections. |

| A camping trip, the last my family has taken actually, was to Canada, in and around Canada day. The first thing that we all noticed was the NUCLEAR FUCKING MOSQUITOS that inhabit this particular campsite. Seriously, they were monsters, and I had bumps in places I did not know existed on my body.
Everything was going fine, sans the mosquitos, we visited the Bay of Fundy, and did some other miscellaneous things that you do in Canada. We were down the road from a "quaint" little town, Alma, and would stop in for breakfast and get some tasty honey buns. The celebration of Canada day was weak, and either that night, or the night after, we got ROCKED with a storm. It was our last night, and we were just gonna wake up and jet, we had everything set up. We went to bed around 9ish, and woke up at about 12 to a torrential downpour, and rain soaking through our tent. I barely slept a wink the rest of the night, do in large part to the fact that I was basically floating. We got the hell outta dodge at like 7, and did not look back. |

| On Christmas Eve 2004, I was in Washington state and had to come back home for Christmas. The flight was supposed to be early in the morning so that I would be home before night time, be able to settle in, and get some sleep before Christmas.
Well, first it went from being at 9 am to 10 am. And then to 10:30. And then to 1 pm. And then 2 pm. And then 3 pm. Finally around 4 pm I believe, the plane arrived. Gah sitting in that little airport for that long was like death. 
Luckily, they made up for a good hour in the air, apparently the wind was in our favor very much, and I got back home around 9:30 pm. I believe that's the worst that's ever happened to me. When I was in Washington again for Thanksgiving, they overbooked the flight as well. They offered the same deal Colin mentioned... but I didn't take it. I just wanted to get back to where it was 70 degrees.  |

Never turn down free stuff if you can afford a minor inconvenience. Make the airlines pay. |

My tolerance is 50 degrees. The temperature it gets at the coldest time of winter while I have to be outside. It might be lower at night, but I'm under my blankies by that time.  |

Seriously, I think I saw it snowing once. I don't see why you're complaining, being as I believe that was the warmest year Washington has ever had in the winter... Then again, you're a "weak little girl from California," and I recall seeing somebody native from California in a ski jacket, shivering in 70 degree weather, when all of us Washingtonians had the windows down on the bus. Luckily, I myself have had no vacation mishaps, really. My first flight though, was a 2 part flight, and I remember barely making the second half. But all was well, so whatever. |

Last summer I went out camping with my dad... if you knew him, I wouldn't have to say any more, but yeah. We toured around Ontario doing various things... I don't really remember what order we did them in, but one thing we did was camp out at a trout farm. Whoo, let me tell you, there must have been a starving mousquito for every blade of grass there. Basically like Toxic described, except instead of a lot of big ones, there were busloads of normal-sized ones.  Figured we'd be alright once we got the tent set up, but it was dark and we couldn't see WTF we were doing. We had a flashlight but it was dying. Then we started inflating the air matresses... the pump died and one had a hole in it. We packed up and got a hotel instead.
Of course, getting to the hotel wasn't much better. We had no idea where we were going and they were no help. They gave us wrong directions and told us to go the wrong way down a one-way street! 
Eventually we made it to Ottawa and of course he had to go see the war museum. We got there 20 minutes after it closed. So we had to come back the next day. It was kinda cool, but my feet disagreed. 
At another point we went to our Grandpa's place for about 2 weeks. The most boring 2 weeks ever. I had my DS but no games I wasn't bored of and no money to buy any more. TV? We could either go upstairs and watch whatever boring war show he was watching, or find something on the one in the basement, which was difficult because the cable box was incredibly slow and he barely had any channels, and none of them were at all entertaining except for the occasional Simpsons episode. So basically no TV. I ended up just drawing. I normally suck at drawing but these actually came out pretty good - since it was the only thing to do, I didn't mind re-drawing something 80000 times until it looked right.
Overall it was boring as hell... but I got a computer out of it! Just bought all the parts at whatever places we went by. |
