With all the hype of the BCS, are the other bowl games even worth playing/watching?

I say ND vs. Ohio gets more viewers than national championship...

I don't like the conference championships because not all conferences have them, and I'd rather go without 'em than with 'em. Although if all conferences did have them, it'd essentially be a playoff system of its own. I like what the Pac 10's doing...having every team in the conference play each other. Too bad the rest of the major conferences have too many teams to be able to do that.

I'm tired of all the people crediting the BCS for "getting it right". There's two undefeated teams in all of division 1-a football, and when the Bcs decides that those two teams should be the ones playing for the championship, it gets praised as if it just cured cancer. Why does nobody seem to see that any idiot could have put the 1 vs. 2 together and get it right.

Well, I'm just as excited as anyone for the Notre Dame/Ohio State (not "Ohio"; last I checked the Bobcats went 4-7 and aren't going bowling). Gotta think the Buckeyes are going to be favored, as they're playing just as well as anyone out there. And of course hoping that Toledo (and to a lesser extent, Akron, however the hell they made it into the picture), can represent for the MAC.

speaking of the BCS of getting it right... Pac-10 gets short end again with OSU (5th ranked in country) playing in the Holiday Bowl... I read a comment that stated that in the simulations before BCS was decided, the formulas got the Pac-10 right...

anyways, we all know the BCS is flawed--no mathematical formula could ever simulate common sense...

That's what's so bad about the BCS, the chances of it picking the two undefeated teams is only slightly more probably than us finding a cure for aids today. Take last year for example, Cal only had one loss, to USC and they were the only team that came close to beating them last year, and instead of sending Cal to the Rose bowl the BCS sent Texas. Now, anyone from Cali knows that the Rose bowl is Pac-10 v. Big-10, and for some reason they desided to send Texas, effectively removing the Rose bowl from future BCS games. Yup, the obvious choice was Ohio STATE (jeez, people can be so picky) v. Cal and because that didn't happen the Rose bowl is ending their contract with the BCS after this year. And I feel Oregon's pain, they should be there, but they aren't.

And I'm definately gonna have to disagree with you on the ND v Ohio State game cause, well, we've only lost by a total of 6 points, and we held SC to their best game this year. And right now, except for that lack of respect for Standford, we're clicking on all cylinders. It should definately be a great game, everyone around here is thinking 31-28 or something like that.

Ohio STATE (jeez, people can be so picky)

Lol. Sorry, but Ohio U is typically a doormat team (although they did handle Pittsburgh this year) and I don't prefer to have my teams associated with them that way. I've actually seen apparel in discount stores that have "Ohio State Buckeyes" printed all over them, except that the colors were green and white, which are Ohio U's colors. Probably just some 6 year old kid in Taiwan who opened a book to see which colors to make the clothing he's creating, only to search under "Ohio" and not "Ohio State".

Buckeyes are an early 4 point favorite. That's about what I expected.

And I do agree that Oregon should be given a shot in all of this. Obviously that's what happens when you play Houston and Montana as your out of conference schedule. But it must be really hard for them to get good teams from the east to come all the way out there to play them. A few years ago a pretty good Michigan team went out and got their asses whooped at Autzen, and they pretty much decided they'd never go out west again after that. Oregon basically has to either play lesser teams looking more to collect a paycheck than to win, or go on the road themselves.

I don't know if ND-OSU will pull higher ratings than USC-Texas, but it will get a shitton of viewers, with the legions of fans both teams have (and legions of detractors too, actually. ) It's kind of ironic that ND barely lost to SC and OSU barely lost to Texas. Imagine the mess the BCS would be in if those games went the other way.

If the ND v USC game went the other way ND would be No. 2 right now, and if Ohio State beat Texas (damn, I wish I had caught that game) then Ohio would be first, and wow, that would've been increadible. If we only hadn't lost to State, what an atrocious loss that ended up being. I can't wait for this years bowl season, it's gonna be glorious.

You forget Penn State. I think it would be Penn, OSU, ND, though it could easily be Penn, ND, OSU or ND, Penn, OSU. Any way you slice it, it'd be horrible for the BCS.

Horrible, the BCS would love to see ND in the national championship game. And if ND and OS only had 1 loss a piece they would definately be above Penn. They played great this year, but if they had equal records to ND and Ohio State they would not be above them.

1) This is the exception rather than the rule for the BCS.
2) USC will win by at least 2 TDs.
3) Penn State (whoo!) will win by at least 28 points.
4) the NCAA can (bleep) my (bleep) (bleep) with (bleep) and a spoon.

I'm going with the Longhorns, although USC has 2 Heisman winners (Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush).

Did anyone else catch the Alamo Bowl tonight? I only caught parts of it, but man, did it have a hell of a finish. It was almost another Stanford-Cal ending.

...and Michigan choked again. HAHAHAHAHA!

I gave it a 0.8 "The band is out on the field!" although that play would've been even BETTER than Stanford/Cal if they scored. Wouldn't be in that position if the officials were competent. I would blame the Sun Belt, but it's more on the guy in the booth with the slow trigger finger. Michigan shouldn't have had to use those two timeouts to get replays.

Wow, did BC almost blow their bowl game yesterday or what... Talk about righting the ship at the last possible moment.

I did see some highlights though... man do I love Boise State's turf. Just awesome.

Even with our considerable mistakes (turnovers, blocked FGs) OSU gave ND a sound drumming. Awwww yeah!

Since I see no real reason for this to be closed,

I shall open, and say this: Marcus Vick is a little prick. Anyone who watched sports center this morning or the game knows why.

And: Reggie Bush is not from this planet. If you think I'm kidding, find his HIGH SCHOOL highlight tape. In 9 or 17 minute version, it should be on most file sharing networks. It is completely unbelieveable, and that sentiment was shared by college coaches.
I can't wait to see him tear up the NFL.

T'was a good game indeed. Quite the team bashing to end your day with, that's for sure. I caught it right when the score was 7 - 0 and Penn State made the interception. Good times, good times...

Good night. =P
