Out here, we watched...the He-Man Christmas Special. Courtesy of a friend of friends who happens to have a random collection of '80s Christmas specials on VHS. It was unintentionally completely fucking hilarious. Thanks to all manner of random details that were ever so easy to make sexual comments about (He-Man's pink outfit, the flying dildo ship, about forty billion other things I forgot), Skeletor's random acts of kindness towards the little kids who got transported from Earth to Eternia by accident, and various characters' habits of floating in one spot while slowly explaining what they were going to do next (and other forms of EXTREEEEME cheesiness), it provided much fodder for bawdy snarkage from the peanut gallery. Why did these cartoons not seem nearly that silly when we were little? (edited by Rydain on 01-01-06 02:30 AM) |

Well, we left for the hotel at around 2 a.m., and I'd say we got back to the house (where my laptop and the internets are) less than an hour ago. And it doesn't help that I don't have much to talk about other than complaining about this stupid cold that doesn't seem to be going away. I don't have a sore throat any more, but my nose is still stuffy/runny, and last night, I got this random stabbing pain in my back when I breathed deeply. It only happened twice, but it scared the shit out of me. I may have gotten something bacterial. Blah. Wouldn't that be a real kick in the nadsicles. If it doesn't get better, I'll have to see a doctor when I get back home.

Not me
Though since I made most of my posts yesterday at the start of the day, this isn't too surprising. |

Seems like I had a period of being serious inbetween. Still, some of thoose cartoons aren't just as good as you remember them. (Ironically, a few other cartoons have gotten funnier... when you understand the jokes more xD) |

If I have the slightest idea what you're talking about, and I would assume that I do, they put such things in so parents of the children watching them don't get horridly bored

Kids have a different take on things, in terms of humor. And I think it's safe to say that kid humor isn't nearly the same as adult humor.
It's just funnier to see those things as adults and have a completely different view on them. Humor that you never understood before suddenly SHIIINES. |

I love movies and TV shows designed to amuse kids and adults. When the first Rugrats movie came out, I went to see it with some friends. (We thought the cartoon was cute and entertaining.) It was pretty good, partly because it included quite a lot of under-the-radar humor for the grownups in the audience.
The classic Warner Brothers cartoons were originally made for all audiences and shown before movies at theaters. When I was little, I would watch them and laugh my ass off at the slapstick, but I missed most of the references to political figures and celebrities that were well-known when the cartoons were made. I bet I would catch much more of that now. |

There's a lot of WB cartoons on some channels here and they're just as good today as I remembered them being when I was young. Especially a lot of culture references.
I've seen a few shows where the main target audience was kids but they'd toss in the odd silly or even crude joke that the kids would never get in a million years, but the parents certainly would. Great to see some imagination there. |
