Oo, that would be bad. I got hit by a blue shell right before I went off the dash ramp in Bowser's Castle 1. Sent me straight into the lava (Oh, I said that already...)... and I sunk to 6th place.

That doesn't matter though, as I got the gold trophy with a perfect 40 score (but only a single star ranking... deserved way higher ). Now to do it on Retro Cup... man I'm bad at 150CC...

Oh yeah, it says in the manual that you can only blow up balloons while you're not holding "A." I figured that since you had read the manual so carefully I didn't need to mention it. ;D

What page? Mine doesn't even explain what the different battle modes are. It just names them.

SERIOUSLY. THREE TIMES IN A ROW. HERAJZRQwyhwereryhea

Then, once, I made it into rainbow road, and got hit by a blue shell one foot away from the finish line. One foot! Then my competition came from behind and I got fourth

Seriously.. I don't accept less then first.... Not against a computer... so I have to reset the cup and do the easy tracks again, only to inevitably get bombed in the worst possible spot.

That's called Murphy's Law. What I find odd is in N64 Choco Mountain, 9 times out of 10, near the end, someone will fire 3 green shells at the exact same spot, with the exact same speed and angle.

It's on page 20 on my manual. Let me tell you what it says about blowing balloons.

Originally posted by fabio's Mario Kart: DS Manual
* Initially, you have five balloons, only one that is inflated.

* Blow into the microphone when not pressing A to inflate a balloon. You can also hold Select to inflate a balloon, but blowing in the mic will make it inflate faster.

* When all of your inflated balloons are burst, you lose, even if you have unused balloons you can still inflate.

Page 20

Battle: There are two types of battle matches: Balloon Battle and Shine Runners. In single-player matches, you will battle against CPU-controlled karts. In multiplayer matches, you can play against other Mario Kart DS owners using the Nintendo DS wireless functionality.

Balloon Battle: Battle against your opponents, taking care not to let your balloons pop.
Initially, you have five balloons, only one of which is inflated.
Blow into the microphone when not pressing A to inflate a balloon. You can have up to three balloons inflated at one time. You can also hold Select to inflate a balloon, but blowing into the mic will make it inflate faster.
When all of your inflated balloons are burst, you lose, even if you have unused balloons you can still inflate.

It goes on to list the ways you can lose balloons but I'm not taking the time to type it up. This is ALL on page 20 though.

Must be because they package the game differently in Canada. They have to have room for a French section too I assume... therefore they had to cut half the manual so it would still fit in the box.

Haha, we have the same manual as US. I just checked page 20... and it was about battle mode. Just in Swedish instead.

Only thicker and with more languages.

Did they do the translation more proper for Europa than canada? I dunno.

A Cure to All Your Troubles
Snaking

This little skill will enable you to beat those horrid staff ghosts in Time Trial, along with giving you a much better chance at winning your standard Gran Prix race.
It basically involves a light character, with low Drift, high Acceleration, and low Top Speed.
I reccomend Yoshi and his Poltergust 4000 kart, or if you havn't unlocked it yet, go with his Egg 1 kart.

Pick a simple track, say Baby Park, Luigi Circuit, Figure-8 Circuit, or Star Cup's Mario Circuit. I also highly reccomend that you play on 50cc at first just to learn this. You get more roaming area when you're slower.

We all know how to get a turbo from power sliding, right? It gives you quite a boost! Well, snaking is just getting that said boost over and over again on a straight.

1) While driving down a straight, slightly drive towards the right side of the straight (maybe at around a 15° - 20° angle).

2) As you're edging closer to the side of the road, perform a powerslide to the left. Whilst in this slide, quickly try to pull off a turbo boost.

3) Just as you're finishing the first boost, immediatly get to work on the second. Just do it again in the opposite direction.

Now you can see why it's called "snaking"
Just think about it like you're powersliding through a snake-turn in the road, see?
Be sure to practice on 50cc though. It's way too hard to learn on the higher difficulties.

Once you get the feel of your kart, and how quickly you can repeat the boosts, you'll become a master in no time!
Power-turboing on straights and turns is what'll give you your wins. Your losing opponents will be sure to complain about "Snaking is Cheeting" on Nintendo's official forums.

LEARN IT!!!

Another good kart to practice snaking will have to be Dry Bones on the Dry Bomber, the one that is a tank.

Dude, I already SSMT, and so does Katw... And we're the only ones worth anything here Also, poltergust sucks ass for snaking. Dry Bomber and Egg-1 for the win.

Dry Bomber with Dry Bones or a different character? I've tried to snake with DBs in the Dry Bomber. I did... decent, but I lost more time then if I drove normally. What engine class is used in time trial? That's what I tried it in...

I'm loving the game so far, but my only gripe at the moment is that blue shells are WAY too common, even in 50cc. My only non-1st 50cc finish came in Rainbow Road where I got drilled with one in the middle of the corkscrew, which would probably be disasterous in 150cc.

Aside from at least 3-4 of them being tossed out in each match, I have no problems with gameplay itself.

It varies a lot, actually. On any mode it's possible to hang in first the whole match with no blue shells at all. The computer actually runs over item boxes and gets the same item distribution as the players in this one, I think.

Eh. I had little trouble ***-ranking everything. Just takes practice.

Once you learn to use basic items to block blue shells it all becomes much easier

You can block blue shells?! I know you could dash out of the way if you time a mushroom perfectly right, but how do you block it with items you get in first place?

I haven't even gotten a *** in a Cup yet, obviously. Best is * in a couple of the 50cc's but I don't even know how they're graded.

I already know that getting *** in every level of Mission Mode is going to take a loooooooong time. Perfection's required it seems.

I nearly went insane trying to get triple star in mission 1-8
And level 1 is the only mission set I've triple stared. I have at least a single star rank in every one though

As for cups, well... I'm terrible at 150CC mirror. So. Horrible
And I have a B rank in 150CC Star cup that I need to get to at least a single star too... but lazy.
