I've been thinking of getting a flash cart. Basically so I can run hacks and such, as well as saving on importing. Being able to flash translated ROMs is also a plus. SNES emulation is existant, but not at it's height. PocketNES seems to be missing a few mapper supports as well, leaving out a few of my favorite NES games. And now I learn that DS dumps can be playable through a GBA flash cart. My main question(s) are:

1. Should I just take what I have now, emulator support and all, and go for a GBA one, or wait for a NDS cart to come with all this stuff? I presume SNES emulation will come easier through the DS for a number of reasons, and the original 4 buttons wouldn't serve a problem.

2. What size should I look for if I want to play DS dumps? I know most aren't that big, and I doubt the biggest DS game will be twice as large as the biggest N64 game.

3. Should I ditch those and go for the PSP? SNES emulation is a big factor in my choice, but I'd like a chance to test out DS games that I'm not sure I'll like (Meteos, for example).

Please, don't give me any of those "Sony sux!" or Nintendo is teh kiddie!" cause I'm not looking for a system to buy. I'm looking for emulation support.

Thanks ion advance.

Now about the flash carts. SNES emulation in GBA will be ankward, with those missing buttons, but that depends on the type of game you like more. Most RPG games don't use the whole 8 buttons, plus you can remap then (in-game or in the emu config. options). DS x GBA, I'd go for GBA. Some have pretty big Meg counts, and you aren't losing anything if you can use them with a DS later (biggest meg count dump yet is 512, IIRC) .

The PSP control sucks (I tried a first model once). I heard the battery sucks up too much juice, and the thing is over pretty fast.

But oh boy, Sony sux big time. More exactly, their consummer service and shady business practices, along with the whole rootkit fiasco. If I ever buy a Sony product again, it will be used, so they can't get revenue from me. And their CDs, i won't buy (not even used)

Yeah, thanks to that rootkit crap I won't be buying from Sony anymore, but anyway... I don't think there's an actual SNES emu for DS that works really well yet, but there will be. (There is an emu, but last I heard it still had a lot of work to be done.)

Most tech support sucks actually (Bell, Western Digital, Microsoft*...) Just most companies don't sink as low as Sony.

*I called these guys out of boredom. They wanted me to pay for the privelige of being on hold.

get a supercard. cheaper, and bigger since it uses sd/cd cards.
it has built in support for nes emulation and a few others. there's also snesDS which is basically a port of snes advance. snes emulation is still not good for gba though, so it's not very good for ds either. I think pretty much ever nes game works, but I'm not sure.

I'm not too sure. I know nester doesn't support and FCE(s) does/do. The games which use the mapper is Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem Gaiden, and Famicom Wars. They were all developed under a the same development roof. It was one of those early R&D things.

I second the supercard method. You'll have a LOT more freedom being able to put ROMs and SAV files on a FAT file system which you can easily connect to a computer with a ext card reader or if your computer has built in ones . That and SD/CF cards are available pretty much anywhere and will save you from having to order new flash carts online if you for some reason want another.

The games are patched in order to bypass the real SRAM and allow saving into .SAV files onto the SD/CF card. Pretty handy.

Any link for a specific Card I'd need/want? I think my dad has a writer, but I'm not into the whole card thing, and I'm not even sure on how I'd write things over with one; I've only bothered with a flash cart, and it was easy :/ Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Search for SD (Secure Digital) cards. They're smaller and more recent than CF (Compact Flash). As for their usage, if you have the memory card reader, it works just as easily as a floppy disk, USB flash drive, iPod, etc. NDS and GBA ROMs need to be patched with the software that comes with the Supercard, but once you do that they can be placed onto the memory card as well as the desired SAV file (if you want). Supercard also has a built in NES emulator and a few other things which allows you to stick those relevant items (eg, NES ROMs) straight onto the memory card and Supercard can read it from there. The reason why the NDS/GBA ROMs are flashed are so that it properly saves onto the .SAV file rather than overwriting the save of your sacrificed commercial cart which is in your Passme slot . The NES emulator and such don't need this since they are already programmmed to do so .
