Okay, late last night I decided to give it a try, and I was able to find opponents.
All yesterday and the night before I wasn't able to connect to anyone, it was maddening. I'd leave it on and hear that stupid beeping and agrhfg.

Yeah, that was pretty fun. Doesn't have the same charm as playing a friend though. One guy disconnected before I beat Rainbow Road. I don't care about the record or anything, but that's a long track, and I was proud of leaving everyone in the dust. Bah.

It's about time I add my own friend code, so that these random names in my list may be able to face me. I've not the best of luck though, being that soon after I got the WFC for christmas I got sick.

Finally ordered the Mario Kart DS bundle online tonight. So yeah, I'm getting the game and a DS itself within the next week.

I look forward to challenging many of you.

Today, I played with my brother and his friend on Mario Kart. Out of the 30 or so races, I won 28, or something around there. We did a few battles, which ended in me winning by a longshot, but the races were clearly mine.

They kept missing item boxes, failed to use items the right way, kept running into their own traps, and fell off the track. Meanwhile, I am in the lead by about 30 seconds and about to lap them when I finish.

All this, and I was playing random characters in random karts. Therefore, some of the races I was horrible... and I STILL WON FIRST!

Either I am good and they suck, or I suck and they suck worse.

Well, the only way to see is to get online sometime... which I don't see happening soon.

Will the USB connection work with dial-up or no? If I can only race one friend at a time, I don't care. I just want to play online...

From people I see going ping-pong all over, I guess dial-up can work. I don't know if I appear to go ping-pong on 15 kb/sec max upstream.

If you want to race me, just inform me that you've added my friend code so I can put yours in. I normaly like a I pick then you pick track set, it's a shame Waluigi pinball is not in the list of tracks when you race someone around the world. :/ Currently, I have never come anywhere other than first on that track.

I'm of a middle skill level. Alastor's got more skill than me so next time I race him, I want to give him a handicap of some sort.

I would like to mention something about my name I use for MKDS online: It's impossible to actually post what it really is on this board because of the way it is. What it is, as some of you know is:

Xkeeper letter thingy from the last board(x2), B button, A button, L button(x2), A button, Xkeeper letter thingy again(x2)

That's pretty much it. You'll understand more once you see it.

To everyone who doesn't SSMT (or snake, as it's more commonly known):

watching this would totally be a good idea.

"Snaking" is not fair. Many people can't do that because it's hard to do. I tried to "snake" many times but everytime I go straight in the wall. And I'm not the only one to think "snaking" is not fair. The goal of MKDS online is to have fun, not to beat others by doing something they can't do.

Isn't snaking using mini-boosts on any strip of track? If it is, I can do it sometimes.

I think it was for straight roads. Take the Figure-8 circuit track for an example. Probably the best place to snake is there because most of the track is just a straight road.

if you string them together enough, no matter where it is, it's ssmting. even if it doesn't make sense given what that stands for.

Ummm... I never really snake...
The only snaking I do is corner snaking, but then sometimes I only boost one time on curves. All depends on the kart...

But after that video... I should use that technique on the straight tracks... all the other tracks, though, I highly doubt I will use it.

Well, anyone got some good times in Time Trial? I know I beat the staff ghost on Airship Fortress with Dry Bones in the Light Dancer. Record of 2:05:938.

Any other impressive records?

It's not fair because it's hard to do.

This gives competitive gaming a whole new definition!

A much, much less competitive definition.

Edit: As a side note, I am going to get completely demolished in this tournament.

I used to do it in double dash, but I can't do it since D-Pads suck for mini-turbos. Seriously, I can not do so easily. Anyone want to have a fairness rule of no snaking unless your A. Shitty at it, as with some people I see. or B. Your opponenet can snake well.

Seriously, this kind of logic fails. Where do you draw the line? If one person is good at sniping people with green shells but his opponent sucks at aiming, are green shells banned too? Snaking is a way of playing the game. If it were an obvious exploit or something, then it would make sense to ban it, but it just means doing miniturbos continuously. There's no clear-cut way to define when you're powersliding around curves like all the FAIR PLAYERS should do versus when you're powersliding a little too often and getting speed boosts all the time and therefore being a POOR SPORT.
It's fine. Learn 2 play.

People who use mini-turbos on straight bits of track = unfair. People who use mini-turbos on curves in a track = fair.
I can say I can have good accuracy, such as the time I hit Alastor directly with a banana. But accuracy with items can vary depending on the Ping-Pong drivers. I gamble at hitting 'em. Normaly I miss them.

Even if this weren't a completely unjustified assertion, it's completely unenforceable and there's tons of gray area between the two situations you mentioned.

Provide some arguments that make sense. Using a difficult technique to gain an advantage in a game is not unfair, anymore than tricky multi-button combos are unfair in fighting games.
