How many here like to cook?

I'm a very underconfident cook, but I'm getting better. I can make a whole lot more stuff than I used to be able to now, but generally I need a basic recipe to get started with a lot of things. Once I'm comfortable with a recipe, I can make modifications to it and such.

When I start a new recipe, I like to use proper measurements and such too; but once I'm comfortable with it I don't anymore And I add new stuff to it and such too

I used to burn everything; or otherwise ruin it (lumpy sauces; oversteamed vegetables, undercooked pasta and rice, etc). I'm getting better at that now and I can cook more and more complex things too.

What I can't do is improvisational cooking. I can't just make a meal up on the fly out of things I have in the house.

I also don't like having people tell me what to do when I'm cooking. Usually when I start cooking I have already in my mind what it is I'm trying to do; and I want to try to work through it. I really dislike it when somebody will stick their nose in and tell me I'm doing it wrong -- and this usually results in me getting all funny over it and killing the food through nervousness

Do you like cooking? Can you cook improvisationally, or do you need recipes and guidelines?

Personally, I love cooking, and I'm actually pretty good at it. I just don't get a chance to do 'real' cooking very often. It's mom's kitchen after all.

I do work in a cafeteria, but mostly I'm the cash person. As far as food goes, I mostly just make the same stupid sandwiches and salads every day. Occasionally I'll butter some toast for the cook if I'm not too busy.

But whenever I get the chance, I like to experiment. One of my recent successes was this:
I took an ordinary chicken burger from the freezer and put it in the toaster-oven until it was cooked.
Then I took it out, spread salsa on it, and sprinkled some of that kraft 4-cheese italiano shredded dairy product on top, and put it back in the toaster-oven just long enough to melt the cheese.

And just like that, three common household ingredients became a gourmet meal.
Or at least as gourmet as a chicken burger can get.

I have better things to do.

I love cooking, I mostly prefer grillworks because I can really get creative in using different spices. I enjoy experimenting with the marination of the meats and mixing new sauces.

With baking and whatnot, I make sure I have everything just right but meats, I can use my stomach through it. I tried making beer-can chicken and it turned out very nice.

The best thing about meats is the grease coming out can serve as a gravy. Mix the different greases in with, a few pinches of salt, garlic, sauteed with mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. As I drain it all the grease into a separate pan, I add some flour to it, making it nice and thick.

I used to work at a sushi and hibachi grill my mother owns, called Ahoyama. She taught me about the quality of the fish and where to get it. Most asian markets have specially cleaned fish to prepare sushi with. I can prepare Syake (salmon), Ebi (shrimp), Maguro (red tuna), Unagi (eel), and Spicy Crab tempura. It was a fun but very difficult job for a 15-year old. I got paid a little less than everyone else but I got to eat as much as I wanted for free.

I love cooking!! I work in a restaurant part time but I never get to cook ._.;; Just serve tables..when I'm at home, I usualy make dinner because my autnie will come home late from HER restaurant shift sometimes and its nice to leave something out for her. I am especially good at making onigiri (a Japanese rice dumpling), and I am practicing on my sushi rolling. I'm also learning how to make tempura, too. I like baking different dishes sometimes, I make some of the best chocolate chip cookies you've ever tasted when we had family come down for Christmas I helped make a big meal with my auntie and it was really delicious. Its just something I love to do

I make good omelettes!! They're always a bit weird shaped (I have trouble flipping them) but they taste good, and that's all that matters

My pancakes are also somewhat odd shaped. I can never quite get the flipper underneath it properly and then when I try to flip it... well.. Yeah. Creatively-shaped pancakes and omelettes

I can cook some foods. Just simple stuff mainly unless I took a cooking class during my school years then it was a tad different but fun though.

I'm good at the basics, but I generally don't like to cook. I've been trying to figure out why - I had to help people cook recently and it was a "neutral to pleasant" task - and I think that when you're used to food that requires near-zero time and attention to prepare, any effort put forth towards making food and cleaning up afterward feels annoying even if it isn't really much at all. There are a few things that I do enjoy making (like cottage cheese pancakes), and it would be a good idea for me to expand my horizons and get used to putting in time in the kitchen on a regular basis. Variety is good and it would save some money as well. (The healthy convenience meals I buy are rather pricey.)

chaa..I just learned to prepare ramen but really, the thing with me is I can cook. If I sat down and looked at a recipe, and had all the ingredients, I could easily follow the instructions and eventualy cook something. I just...don't, not alot of opportunities to do that since the folks do most of the cooking around here and my sister and I are just sorta like...whatever. But I've been experimenting with the microwave lately and started "cooking" some late night snacks for myself. Its quite nice, but something tells me if I keep up with this diet I'll die before 30 (usualy consists of something cheesy, or with peperoni, tossed onto a tortilla of sorts and melted together and rolled up. good but probably not too healthy)

Eh, I can cook limited stuff... Noodles, eggs, simple things. Oh, I can cook steak in my own sauce, though. There's something.

I suppose I could cook better stuff if I botrhered to read the recipes and directions on the back of them...

I don't usually cook though, so that's another reason I can't cook well.

You mean you are suppose to cook that stuff?

I'm also very limited on food I can cook. But the stuff I can make, rocks.
