OK, so from what I understand I have to use SDW as a base if I want to use SMAS music. However, some other hacks like PiTMK2 use non-SMB3 music, and I was wondering what I have to change to use this music?

There are actually two or three extra music patches. The first is Demo World 3. It has all the tracks from SMB3, and the star theme from SMW2. I believe second one is patch to the Demo World 3 hack, and it replaces certain music with the ones from SMB mode of Mario All Stars, and also adds in the underground theme from SMB2. However, this also seems to screw up the starman theme. I believe that there is a third patch that fixes the starman theme, but I have yet to find it. More likely, however, this fix was done by the ROM hackers, as there is inaccessable music from SMB in the bypass menu. It can be heard in the ending of such a hack. When the credits start, the death theme plays. When the Yoshi Egg hatching scene starts, the game over theme plays. And when the "THANK YOU" message appears, the castle completed theme plays.

Well, one Solar Soundtrack comes out, I think you'll see someone fix all the bugs with the SMB3 music patch... then everyone will use it...

301440 is the start of the sound pointers in a SMAS music hack. Each pointer is 2 bytes. At 3014FC-3014FF are the pointers for the pause and unpause sound, which are both incorrectly 21A8 [A8 21]. Change them both to [A9 21] to fix the pause sounds.

I always wondered what would actually happen at the ending of the game with those patches XD. Never got around to finishing a game with SMAS music in there.

All sound effects should be intact from SMW in SMAS (even though half of them aren't used anymore), but it's quite possible that a few have been moved around or the table is expanded in some spots. Two sound ports start to overlap each other SFX table wise. It's also quite possible I fucked up some pointers, who knows, I can't remember 2-3 years back .
