http://www.romhacking.net

Here's the newest ROMhacking site on the block. We are your source for a document and utility archive that goes beyond what ROMhacking.com ever had. We've also got a translation archive with all the information that was on the Whirlpool. We are also the new one stop news source for all your ROMhacking needs. You'll fine several innovative features on this site that can't be found anywhere else in the community.

We've taken on the ambitious project of constructing a Community Database with all active ROMhackers and what they're doing(limited to Translation/Document/Utiliities at present until we get the Hacks section up in the next few weeks.) We've got an open news system where you guys can actually make the news updates yourself! The site is themeable and all archives are fully searchable. We've got a flourishing message board with open development discussions going on at all times so you the community can voice your opinion about where the site is going to a staff that actually cares and listens to the community!

I won't bore you with a sales pitch or long speech. Head on the down to the site, take a look at the 'About this Site' section to get the big picture and see for yourself! It's time to rejuvenate the community!

NOTE: THERE IS A HACKS SECTION IN THE WORKS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS!

I was looking for trhe hacks section. Hopefully my hacks make the cut. I never could get Zophars to put all mine up there. Looks pretty streamlined tho.

Nice. However, it needs a memory map. If you want me to hack one up, just ask.

What do you mean by memory map? I'm not familiar with that term as it applies to web pages.

Memory maps are lists of what variable goes where in RAM for a given game.

And you'd like to see these on the site?

They are only really marginally useful if you ask me. RAM contents are always changing and while location xx may contain your HP during battle, it may not any other time in the game. How are cases where the same location can contain several different important variables depending on what code is being executed?

Shouldn't the focus be on teaching a person how to find their own variables rather work that they may not even understand what to do with? Memory maps have the potential to confuse someone even more.

Who's currently got a good archive of memory maps? I'd be interested in taking a look at some of them.

Voice your opinion on the message board. If it draws a following from others, I would have no problem adding these types of documents to the site.

There are already a couple of websites that made to house ROM and memory maps. Data Crystal and WikiRAM.

They're pretty useful for those who are developing ASM hacks for the game. Also, seeing what's what in memory is often helpful for finding things in ROM.

Good job! Hopefully, this will turn out to be the best resource for advanced ROM hacking on the web. Keep up the good work, and I am looking forward to the implementation of the hacks section.

Thanks for the memory map archive links. I guess I can't argue that some of the information there is certainly useful for ROM hackers. Two issues really.

1. They aren't in a format suitable for adding to the site. Need some sort of document files or zipped HTML docs etc.

2. These sites are doing a decent job already. Wouldn't adding them to ROMhacking.net sort of hurt those sites?

I do support those sites and have linked to them on the site.

What are your thoughts?

I agree. It doesn't seem worth spending the time to come up with a good system for adding data for games, when there are websites that already specialise in it.

I think if anyone wants to put a memory map up on ROMhacking.net they could probably post it as a document anyways.

I strongly agree with Dan"the Man" ...hehehe....

Romhacking.net should be a resource of guides, documents, how-to's, and technical documents. Assembly guides/resources would be great too being that is what we hackers need knowlege of to do the hacking!

UTILITIES UTILITIES UTILITIES!!!!!!! That is what is important!
Not nessecarily hacks. IMHO you or your romhacking group should be promoting/advertising your hack... Although it would be nice to see some of the *better* hacks put up there as examples of *good* hacking.

Well, please don't make the mistake of associating us with the ROMhacking.com crew This site is completely new from the ground up and not associated with those who ran ROMhacking.com.

The only true link we have is Neil_ from when it used to be ROMhacking.org. He's on our staff. We did use the ROMhacking.com internet archive page as something to start with for rebuilding the database, but that's it.

Unlike Inverse, we actually care about the site and community and activley update and maintain the site, AND have a positive attitude.

We just want to get away from the negativity and lack of caring shadow that was shown from ROMhacking.com. That's not us.

Very true. I remember Inverse actually not wanting people visiting the site, or traffic of any sort. O_o

You are doing an amazing job with the site so far, and I love the idea of being able to submit news myself. Truly spectacular work Nightcrawler.
