Meh, personally I couldnt find a hex editor that I really liked, so I decided to make one...right now its in very early stages,(version 0.1) but can fully edit hex perfectly fine, I just need to add alot of stuff to it, search, replace, support for table files(if I can) and some customizability...but I thought I would release a beta right now...so here it is.

If you want to know what I think I'll tell you. You took TMPHexEditorEx from http://www.mirkes.de/en/delphi/vcls/hexedit.php, added it to a Window and added a menu that controls the control in the most simple way possible. In fact even the demo application on that website has about 10 times more functionality.

I estimate that so far you've invested 30 minutes into this project. Maybe you should have waited until you can show something you've actually added yourself. Like bookmarks (very simple to implement) or something.

Finding things to add is very easy. Download every hex editor you know and check them all out. Implement the functions you like, avoid functions you don't like.

*Kyoufu Kawa shoots you.

You asked for it.

Edit: Just to make this post more content-filled... it might've been in VB but at least my try at writing a hex editor was from scratch! Bleh.

I should try to finish it sometime.

*dead* damn oh well...

well, the only reason im using tmphexeditorex, is because this is my first delphi app..ive got more features added to it now, moslty customizable stuff, like colors, and changing whether or not you are in insert mode or not.

It looks like that on purpose
Form1 is only because this baby is a self-contained ActiveX control, not unlike what you used.

Load it save it quick-rewrite it...

A feature I've wanted for a while now is what you might call multi find. It goes as follows:

User inputs search string 1, 2, ... , X (searching for X strings)
User inputs Proximity: Y (find where these X strings are all no more than Y overall distance apart)

What is that useful for? Identifying pieces of code where two or more variables may be interacting. Like if you've got the variable $7E0400, $7E0500, $7E0600 and you suspect that they may be related some how, you could run a search and see if they show up, say, within $100 bytes of each other. I know I also would have found it useful in SPC hacking, but I can't remember why at the moment... sorry.

Does everyone and their mother really need to program a hex editor? Especially with at least some good free choices already out there. For the record, I attempted to program a hex editor once just to find out if I can.

BTW, I can.

A great hex editor. I think it's perfect and be able to see what i'm working. Could be perfect for my hacking projects.
