I made this thread because I recently found... a rather cool looking glitch in Twilight Princess. In the south of Hyrule Castle, you'll find a pillar with a dig-a-hole thing on top of it. Go dig in it and arrive in a cave with water and red tektites. Kill the tektites, then look around. You'll see a beehive.

Clawshot the beehive from the water into the water. The bees will not bother you. Now get on land and clawshot it again. The hive will bust. The bees howver will behave like it's still there. Walking and "swimming" around on an invisible beehive.

That made me go WTF.

Tell of your discoveries.

I remember discovering the hard way that confusing an enemy in Final Fantasy Legend would instead make their attacks hit your party multiple times. Death was quick.

And I don't know if this is a "glitch," but I randomly entered "KILLTV" as a game genie code for SMB3 and it was accepted without being 8 characters long. The effect was many graphics were glitched-up looking and distorted.

I'm pretty sure if you stand on one of those rotating platforms in Carnival Night Zone, then activate that debug mode feature where Sonic can move around anywhere, the game will freeze.

I also once did the opposite, disprove a glitch commonly assumed to be present. Surfing on Cinnabar Island or Seafoam Island in the original Japanese cartridge of Pokemon Green causes no wild Pokemon encounters to occur.

The game genie has always permitted 6 character codes, and a number of them were made.

Much like the Game Genie (GB) will accept 6 letter codes. They serve different functions

For me? None, I think

When I was younger I figured out debug mode on my own, before I had money for magazines and such, when I later found out I wasn't the only one who knew

While not exactly a glitch, I did notice something about SotN recently, when you're entering the castle, at the Death cutscene, there are a ton of people impaled on sticks and spears and such. Its noteworthy because Dracula was known as Vlad the Impaler IRL. There are a ton of small hidden references and tributes like that all throughout the game, which secretely make it wonderful.

Way too many Super Metroid glitches to list. Most recent one was getting the Metroids to run away from Samus, that was classic.

Let's see... I discovered a glitch with shield shifting in Tanarus that allowed me to charge my shields on both sides even when my hull was being hit. Almost everyone claimed I hacked or lagged even though I explained repeatedly how to do it.

I found a bug in ToME (surprise, surprise) that turns Vapor, a weak area-of-effect spell that does damage over time, into a MASSIVE damage dealing spell capable of owning even late-game enemies.

When I played it for a short time, I found a bug in World of Warcraft that allowed unlimited range magic missiles. I think that's become semi-common knowledge and fixed by now though.

I found a few glitches in StarCraft. One was a selection glitch which allows you to control groups with specific highlighted characters, ala WarCraft 3, which also allowed you to do stuff like order Infested Kerrigan and Templars to storm at the same time, or carriers and reavers to build subunits with a single click. Sadly, I didn't manage to command a stasised character to attack, though that would've been awesome. Another glitch allowed Infested Kerrigan to attack at a good range (just outside of the hit effect of a firebat's flame). Yet another glitch allowed cannons to fire outside of their range too - I've seen a cannon fire at a siege tank at the seige tank's full range (while sieged).

And a plethora more of bugs. I seem to be really good at finding obscure bugs in games.

I've only found a few glitches myself. I found a glitch in Mario Golf for the GBC where the sound effects will glitch up for a few seconds, and another in the N64 version that causes garbage to show up for the distance to the pin if the game has to display a sufficiently large number there (switch to a putter on Boo Valley's 7th hole to see it).

I also found a minor glitch in Mario Kart 64 where you can force characters to use their "selected" pose when they aren't selected, and a found a nice fatal glitch in Looney Tunes B-Ball that crashes the game about 40% of the time when it's done, and makes it impossible to score anymore points in that quarter the rest of the time. Not fun when I did it the first time and the game died in the middle of the tournament semifinals.

Oh, some I remember:

I found out that entering "7" into a Game Genie for the GB will make it so, in Link's Awakening, you don't fall down pits or water. Oddly, it doesn't mark the code as invalid, either

I also found some of the weird hidden messages for the GG, too.

This was some time ago, but I remember it clearly and never finding anything about it in any other game guide to the game, probably because it's not played that much. I was never able to replicate it but...

I was playing Top Gun: The Second Mission (also known as Dual Fighters) on the NES one morning and I guess I had hit a correct sequence (not the Konami code) or pressed something right when I loaded the cart because when I hit '1P Game' it brought me to a stage select screen to choose from any 3 of the missions. I've never since been able to get it to do it and I've never seen anyone mention how to do so since.

Being able to buzz ahead from the first two missions to the third was a nice thing to have when, at the time, I was getting my ass kicked when I hit the second one. God knows it took me a LONG time to figure out how to maneuver through that damned forest.

My cousin and I discovered the Freakytown glitch in Zelda II. I'm responsible for naming it and sending it into some video game cheat site about ten years ago. This glitch, which can be done in various contexts (some more useful than others), is performed by jumping offscreen and casting Fairy while you're up there. It does something funky to the level data pointer. You can amuse yourself with a bizarre composite town or change certain palace layouts to something simpler.

This page has a few blurbs about the Freakytown/Freakypalace glitch, including my original writeup. It would totally make my day if some patient person with a debugger felt like examining exactly what is going on with the level data.

Mega Man III has a secret super jump activated by holding down left on the second controller. You can jump out of pits after you land in them, and if you wait until your life goes to zero before jumping out, you're invincible. Ogre and his brother found that trick by randomly messing around, and they sent it into Nintendo Power, which is where I originally read about it. It's a small, small world.

I have discovered a glitch in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.

I made a video of it, Check it here.

Ignore the background noise, it's my ex-roommate's family playing Guitar Hero.

In Super Mario Kart, I was rather upset to discover that if you're too far to the left when passing the finish line in Koopa Beach 1, the lap isn't counted.

In Super Mario 64, I believe I found this myself (though I know I wasn't the first); if you hang off the edge of the castle roof as close to the invisible barrier at the right side as possible, then climb back up, you go through the barrier. For some reason this makes your hat disappear, then you die.

In Pokémon R/B, there's a place in the dungeon that Mewtwo is in (can't recall its name ) that you step onto a ladder, and when you appear on the next map, you're blocked on the North, South and West by rocks. However, you can take one step South into the solid rock. Nothing unusual happens, you can't go any further, you can walk back North again, etc. Just a minor oddity.

In one level in world 7 of Super Mario Bros 2, there are mushroom blocks or something piled atop a cloud, like so:
###### <-- blocks
# #
# #
~~~~~~ <-- cloud
You can jump up through this cloud, getting stuck inside the structure. (Thankfully, you can kill yourself from the Pause screen, so you're not completely screwed unless you have no lives left.) The sucky part is it's a blind jump - you can't see the structure until you land on the cloud, triggering the screen to scroll.
If you hold the Wiimote's Power button while the Wii Menu is loading after exiting a game or channel (while the 16 gray "Wii" squares are displayed), the controller turns off but the console stays on. I actually found this one about 10 minutes ago.
I was in like, 1st Grade or somewhere around that when I discovered my first big glitch. I still remember it quite well to this day.
My friend and I were playing Donkey Kong Country, and we eventually got to the first Mine Cart level. Well, we died, then started at the checkpoint. Most of you probably know by now, but if you constantly roll+jump while out of the cart in that level, you can basically "jump infinitely". Back then we thought you had to hit A and B at the same time, but it was really just doing the roll+jump combo. This can easily be triggered when you get hit while having both Diddy and DK, and then when you get hit and the other character quickly pops out of the cart for you to switch, start rolling and jumping!
We thought it was absolutely amazing, and for awhile we were really determined to submit it to Gamesages (anyone remember that site?), and thought we'd be famous for it.
I don't think we ever really tried to submit it or anything though.
Does having modern games crash on me count? This happens far too often than I'd like .
Shadow of the Colossus, Scurge, Portrait of Ruin, ... Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Mario & Luigi PiT, pretty much any game I've played in the past 3 years has crashed on me. What ever happened to beta testing?
Anyways, the only major glitch I'm known to have discovered is the Green Gate Glitch for Super Metroid. link.
I'm sure it's been found before, but when I rented Paper Mario, I tried walking around Shooting Star Summit and somehow skipped the entire Act 1. Tried it again and skipped the entire Act 2. Restarted my file because I wanted to actually play the game.
I found a few Animal Crossing glitches myself, too, most notably this weird Groundhog Day glitch where Tortimer vanished and everyone in the village started looking toward one spot at the wishing well.
In Pokemon (Red and Blue?) I somehow found the glitch pokemon, "M," on my own. The only other person that was around during that time was a friend of mine. I didn't know what I did to do it, and I assumed it wasn't special, so I didn't tell anybody... That is until much later, where somebody told me that I wasn't the only person who had discovered the glitch pokemon after I had told him about it. I was truly amazed... Mainly because somebody recorded how to do it somehow.
(Note: I don't remember the game it was, and I don't remember the name of the pokemon, but I remember it was a single letter, probably M)
For some reason, I managed to get the Guards at the beginning of Zelda 3 to say every line of dialog in the game. Normally they just say 6 lines or so, then repeat, but instead they kept saying a new dialog every time you talked to them. Eventually they went through all the lines in the game. I got it to happen twice, and have never done it since.
Dwedit, I caused that happen in Earthbound... well ok sorta. I used a cheatcode so Earthbound would ignore "end of message" character. Maybe your copy of Zelda for some reason decided to ignore that character for some reason, which causes it to go through the whole game script. :/
I remember stumbling upon a glitch in SMW2 where you would waarp from some level in the fourth world to level 1-1. It freked me out, as there were some graphical glitches with thoose... whatever thoose weird penguins are called now.
My sister found the riding charging chucks bug on her own while she was sick. She talked years about it, and I thought it was a freak accident until I saw about it on some Mario site.
