I was bitten on the arch of my foot by a brown recluse (it was in my shoe.) It rotted out and was all gangrenous and nasty. I had a scar for years...
I've been bitten quite a few times by less dangerous spiders. Last time was the last time I slept outside in my hammock at my old apartment. I got three big nasty bites on my back. They looked really bad but my apartment manager mixed up some weird voodoo salve to put on them and it worked wonders. ...I spaz and whimper and cry like a schoolgirl when I get a spider on me. It's my one weakness. Besides kryptonite, anyway. |

I haven't been bitten yet... I guess. But in the area where I live there are almost no dangerous spiders anyway... Also, I was afraid of spiders long ago, but with the time I managed not to get a shock anymore if I see one. |

I've been bitten alot of my years: I know when I get a spider bite because where it happens always swells up like fuck.I'm labeled as arachnaphobic; but spiders and other bugs only bother me when I don't know they're there: when I see them sneak out of nowhere it scares the shit out of me, after that initial shock the only thing on my mind is "Kill it!"

Nope, I've never been bitten by one before. In fact, it's been awhile since I last saw a spider up close. Can't remember how long has it been though.

Biting spiders are pretty much nonexistent where I live. I've only been bitten a few times when I'm in a different part of the country. The few spider bites I've gotten are like mosquito bites - annoying, but harmless.

Several years ago my dad was bit by a rabid bat, but he didn't realize it had broken the skin nor that it carried rabies. Had my mom not noticed weird marks and sent him to the med center the next morning, he'd have been up a proverbial creek.

I was almost bitten by a black widow. I'm not kidding! I was at scout camp and we were building shelters for our wilderness survival merit badge. My friend and I went to get a big log somewhere. I picked it up and the bark fell off. out of the bark comes the black widow crawling up my hand. To image how I reacted: (insert the sissiest, most Female-ish, high pitched scream a boy can make while going through puberty) yeah I shook that FUCKer off and Stomped it to DEATH!!!!
HA HA HA!!!!!! I regained my manliness at that point. but yeah it was pretty scary. |

I see widows all the time, but I don't worry about them as much because they're not nearly as fast or aggressive as a pissed off recluse. And they don't tend to wander away from their nests. The brown recluses in my workshop at my dad's place kinda defy the norm. They grow bigger than average and don't seem to be shy in the least.
At least the place is full of dirt-daubers to keep them in check. I hate wasps of all sorts, but have an uneasy alliance with with those little, more mildly-tempered black ones... Anything that captures spiders and imprisons them paralyzed for their larva to feed upon is ok in my book... |

I was bitten by something, but I'm not sure what it was. Whatever it was, it itched, and the skin flaked, for about two years afterwards.
I'm guessing a spider of some description... it was on my toe. |

Originally posted by SamuraiXOriginally posted by Tanks I am not sure, but spiders are probably "scary" because they are one of the few creatures that can kill that we come into contact within in our own homes and back yards. Other animals kill, but we don't seem to have as much contact with them so I don't know if they freak as much of us out. Plus, growing up you get to see everyone else freak out and then you adopt that fear / phobia yourself. |

I too suffer from arachnaphobia. But, I'm not afraid of big spiders (tarantulas, etc) but the smaller ones, even daddy-long-legs, scare me.

Originally posted by SamuraiX Probably, particularly in the average Australian backyard. But people tend not to freak out so much about them as they do about spiders and snakes. Which has gotta have an impact as a child (rational or otherwise). I dunno, but I still have it in my memory the times that people freaked out about spiders and snakes when I was a kid, or told me they were dangerous. I never got the same freaking out thing about the bottles of poison in the back shed, or the power tools, or whatnot... |

I'm allergic to bugs bites and whatnot..
Also, they're attracted to me more than others, if I'm outside at dark, I'll be bitten by a mosquito, ALWAYS. (Usually more than once) |

Originally posted by SamuraiX It's because they're fucking sneaky. I'm not afraid of dangerous snakes. Do I see them around when I'm in the yard or woods? Yeah. But they're not tiny, they don't get in your house, they don't drop onto you from up high... I fear spiders because they're something over which I have no control. Plus they're icky and creepy and ugly and scary and and and... |
