I was playing online last night and the only guy I could find in my region was someone called something like 495067432131189876... basically a bunch of numbers. I go and play him and find that he sucks entirley... that is until he started moon/multi jumping and not dieing. I'm sure I should have killed him cause I head shooted him up close with the empirialist over ten times then fired at least 6 charged missles at him each hitting him directly. He never went to get health.

So what is this? Is it a modded game or was it some sort of actionreplay or game genie?

Action replay can do this, I believe... And so can modding the game, but modding the game requires more technical knowledge. If you go on the official site, you can see an excellent example of people obviously having cheated, with records recording impossibly high things. The moral of the story is: Don't play people you don't know.

Mario Kart DS had its rare cheater (selecting all the tracks isn't cheating really ), until Action Replay DS came out, now that's pretty sad too. You can hardly even tell the legitmate three-star people anymore.

I gotta' admit, I suck at MP Hunters but I'm much better at MK ds. Unfortunatley I still don't own it yet but ive been able to pilfer my friends every once and a while.

The "lol my name is 4.586874375848945987984" trick is actually just a bug in the original game, requiring no hacking. It's funny because:
-It's a dumb programming bug (dur sprintf() != strcpy())
-They "fixed" it by disallowing percent signs in names, not by actually fixing the bug, which means people who might have used them legitimately can't, and people who hack their way around the censors can still exploit the bug. FYI, It's capable of making everyone's game freeze.
-It's still exploitable in other areas, you just can't put it in your name anymore.

The leaderboard-breaking "hacks" are possible without actual hacking too (lol my name is </table>) but AFAIK, everyone who actually did that cheated to get on the leaderboard in the first place. It was funny if nothing else seeing these guys with 16777215 everything and 101% win rate.

You'd think that it wouldn't be too hard to see those impossible numbers and simply wipe them.

I prefer playing people that I know anyways. Usually leads to fun and wackiness.

I really dislike people who cheat. I was playing against a guy in MKDS, and in Sky Garden he was driving around the middle of the level and by the time I was a quarter done the first lap, he'd finished in first . Heh, he got disconnected on my second lap though.

You'd think that these games could check for cheaters and compensate, though

Nintendo should put a lock on the wifi games so if popular cheats are inserted into a GS or AR the game will detect it and refuse to load. I beleive they did attempt to do something of the sort with poke'mon. They inserted a bad egg into the game wich was a real annoyance to players who used gameshark. This might work but I'm sure there would be other codes to go around this.

Well, I was talking about something along the lines of checking outside the problem DS. If the one DS is running altered code or data (through replay or mod), any other DS's playing it would check up on it, and if what it was doing didn't match other DS's, that DS would be disconnected or whatever.
