Well, read this article here. Basically, someone on Score Hero made a kick ass Guitar Hero simulator for the PC. Shortly after, Kotaku releases a story accusing the guy of working for WildTangent and ripping off the code from the real Guitar Hero. Because of the article, the guy took down the files, and told everyone he is no longer working on the project.

Just when I thought I could play some custom songs without modding my PS2.

Well, it won't surprise me if someone else picks up this project / makes their own. Especially since its been publicised like this.

There has been a Guitar Hero simulator. Although it isn't as cool looking as this one was, it did allow custom songs, I think.

Still, it would have been nice to try out. Could have made some cool sims for it.

Yeah, I know of Freetar Hero and Frets on Fire. They were both ok, but it was obvious that not much time was spent on them. To me the thing that stood out about Guitar Zero was that hammer-ons and pull-offs actually work. They don't work on the others. WIthout hammer-ons and pull-offs, there is no way you could clear a Dragonforce song.

I have trouble playing Dragon Force on a real guitar, let alone on my keyboard.

I'm perfectly capable of making my own graphics and steps for StepMania so I could really give two shits otherwise.

Someone will likely pick up the project. They didn't ruin anything and just like any other rhythm based game (that's popular, at least) there will be a VERY FREE simulator to go with it.

So does anybody have a link for this? I know he took it down but I bet others are still distributing it somewhere.

Well, if you release the game and basically COPY most of the original game... the lawyers will be after you eventually. :\

I don't really the problem. The guy made a blunt-as-all-hell clone without being orignal at all; it was either Kotaku doing it our your favorite game company shutting him the fuck down.

This is copyright infringement and no amount of WAAAH FREE changes that.

By the way, you should really consider shutting your fucking mouth, because there are several sources I found by a quick google search to support that this dumbass has, at at least one point in his life, worked for WildTangent.

(Edit: He may not have worked as a WT employee, but I see he's developed at least 4 games with them -- which is highly suspicious in terms of "not working there"...)

WTF was I doing making that post here? Ai yi yi... Colin needs to stop posting when he's in a rush to go to school.

(I know people who aren't well, and my throat doesn't feel well but that's the least of anyone's troubles. As for this... dummies shouldn't copy good work.)

Xkeeper....did you read the thread? ._.; The man himself ADMITS he worked for WildTangent but has not for over a year, and that includes when he made the game. .-.; this is also no more copy-right infringing than StepMania, which even uses original graphics and sounds FROM DDR, at least this guy purposely went out of his way to make original media content for it.... if anything it is MORE legal than StepMania in that regard .-.

Yeah, a lot more original than Stepmania. The reason he made it look and work so much like guitar hero is because of custom songs. There are literally hundreds of custom songs out there now, but not everyone has swap magic and a dvd burner to be able to actually play them. With this, they could.

No, he denies ever working for WildTangent.

I did read the thread.

There is the thread, and he clearly says "I do not work for WildTangent and havent for well over a year."

He doesn't deny ever working for them.

Not entirely true... If anything, the same can be said from Guitar Hero against DDR anyways.

Being able to play any DDR/ITG-made sim on Stepmania does not kill the fact that there are custom songs that exist. StepMania more than does that as well. On legality, it's the same principle because it can used licensed music for that particular regard just as SM can.

It's a simulator/emulator. There's always going to be the grey area on what piracy really is in that regard so there's no 'it's kinda legal'. If you have to say that, it isn't anyways. Then again, we're a ROM hack board as it is. I don't think I have to go there with that extrapolation to get my drift. :\

Doesn't mean people won't stop trying to get a free fix for Guitar Hero, DDR, Beatmania, and whatever other rhythm game that's in existence.

EDIT: By the by, if you're really interested, it's here.

Clearly you didn't. He said he worked there, but does so no longer. (EDIT:The post in question. His exact words were, as Kingpin said, "I don't work for WildTangent, and haven't for well over a year" I don't know how the hell you took that and turned it into "I never worked for WildTangent". There's no damn way to interpret that as "I never worked for WildTangent," in fact. END EDIT)

And as others in other places have said, StepMania does quite a bit to blow your "OMG ILLEGUL" theory right the fuck out of the water.

I'm sorry, mabye it was just everyone being dumbasses going OH NO THEY ACCUSED HIM OF WORKING FOR WILDTANGENT AND BOO HOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH all over.

And yes, for your fucking information, I did read it. Excuse me for accidentally misinterpreting the informtaion I recieved.

Fuck, if he did work for WT than this makes every single person including himself that's up in arms about it even fucking stupider.

I could see your point if he had worked for WT while developing this. But he didn't, and the article's inaccuracy on this point (It calls him "a developer for WT", implying that WT was somehow in cahoots on the whole thing AND that he was working for them currently) caused a huge uproar amongst a "OMG SPYWARE ASSHOL!!1!1" crowd that wouldn't have been there in the first place if only the reporting had been accurate. Indeed, I think if the article were accurate in the first place, pretty much everything, including the uproar you're complaining about, would never have been there.

I think the problem is that, as I'm led to believe, the guy included music with the package which would have bit him in the arse sooner or later. SM doesn't exactly come with sim packs included.
