So I thought I'd ask you guys.

A while ago, I thought my DS' R Button didn't work. Then I found out it did. But now I've noticed that it works 3/4 of the time (and sometimes doesn't respond for a few seconds).

So I think something might be loose. Now, the real question is: Easy to fix by myself (if so, maybe link to a good website or something) or if not, does it cost alot to fix?

EDIT: Dunno if this would be better in H/S ?

L and R buttons malfunctioning is actually fairly common on both DSes and DS lights. If it's on warranty, Nintendo will fix it for free; else, it's $75 in the US or $95 in Canada... Which is stupid-expensive. On the other hand, it's probably easy to fix yourself, but getting into the DS itself will require you to get atypical tools due to it being sealed by atypical screws.

Unless the warranty is like for 3 years (or I dunno how much time it's been out in Canada), then I'm in trouble =P

Heck, I could buy a used DS for $75 (in Canada).

I take it atypical tools are a bitch to find and/or expensive?

I wouldn't know how to acquire them, myself, as I've never tried to repair a DS, but it can't be too difficult; it probably uses mostly common parts. If you know somewhere that carries a screwdriver that would work with those, then go ahead, but... Eh.

I'm probably gonna try to find the right screwdriver tomorrow. I mean, if I don't find it, no harm done. If I do find it, well, now we'll see =P

I'm still trying to find a place near me that CAN do it. Much safer and (I hope) cheaper.

$75 for repairs?

Jesus Christ, you could just buy a new one for that.

This has happened inside my DS as well, but with BOTH shoulder buttons. Underneath the plastic itself, the system employs a very simple bush button. You can get these at hobby stores or even in old controllers and things. It's fairly simple to repair them as I have done it before. You just need some basic soldering skills.

*DarkSlaya needs to develop basic soldering skills.

Or ask someone to do it.

I really need to develop that kind of skills, since other stuff I want to do require it, anyway.

I'd love to do it for you, free of charge. You'll need to ship it to me seeing as I live nowhere near Montreal, Canada. However, there's this issue with trust. I don't know how to make you believe that I'm not going to screw you or anything...

Well, I wouldn't mind, seeing as how it either gets fixed or I buy a new one. Thing is, if I fix it myself, I was have some many chances of destroying it. If I buy a new one, I cannot resell my current one, I would just get crap (so many scratches and stuff = no resell value).

Either, we can discuss this in PMs, if you'd like.

Heh. A rule of thumb of mine.

When you can as well buy a new one, try to repair it yourself. xD If you have the right screws around. Such when I took apart my keyboard, and then there were another layer attached with even smaller and more oddball screws that I didn't have a screwdriver for. I gave up there, as keyboards are rather cheap anyway.

That's generally what I do. Except you know, I never worked with electronics before.

I would've already opened my DS if I had the right stuff around me.

EDIT: Let's say that currently I feel like it's the flop at Texas Hold 'Em. Enough cards to have an idea of how to play, but not enough card to actually know if you made the right play.

The DS has screws that need a tri-wing screwdriver to open. A lot of times, you can still unscrew them with a standard small flathead screwdriver. It's a very simple process. I can have it done very quickly. If you include an SMD LED, I can put one (or two, or three) of those in for you. Is this a DS Phat or Lite?

If you want me to repair it, just PM me on how you want to go about it.

I have the DS Phat, as stated in my PM.

The whole thing is funny, because I'm new to this "planning ahead of time" thing, and now I see how so many things can go wrong (like, I found out how I'm gonna play homebrew, but this happens )
