Same here, once the check clears I'll technically have enough for a Wii. Part of it's supposed to be a college fund but the $100 that should be coming in some time next week will fill that back up. Then I just have to find one... so I guess I'll get one some time in May.

Oh, I have the cash. But I'll probably wait at least a month, maybe two... as soon as we enter the "there MIGHT be Wii's on shelves" phase. It'll be longer before the "there WILL be Wii's on shelves" phase, of course.

So I just played the Wii for the first time on Christmas day and it's awesome. Wii Sports is so much fun. And Zelda, well...you get to swing the master sword! Getting it online was frustrating until I found out what the hell a SSID was. Then it was very simple though the Wii internet browser (powered by Opera) could be a little better. Granted it's only the trial version...
Now all I need to wait for is the XBox360 to go down to at the most $360 (w/ a HDD). That or Sony to lower the PS3's price to $1,000,000. Whichever comes first. All of the games that sold me on the Wii are not released yet so it can only get better. Can't wait to post a message here from the Wii internet channel. |

How do you Wii? Mines setup on a projector in my spare room. So I guess I have a Wii room - how wrong does that sound
I've just been messing with the new Wii media player. It works via the web browser and does quite well. http://www.redkawa.com/mediacenters/wiimediacenterx/ I've converted a few videos it's not too bad a bit choppy, the MP3 player don't work (yet) I've also downloaded a few shockwave games and run them on the same local webserver from here: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/games/ Duck hunt is quite ironic. I was going to mess with that Java NES emu later. Anyone else set that up on their LAN yet? |

Posting from a Wii... It's okay, I guess. =/
Hard to read what's on the screen; and typing with the controller is rather slow. It is a demo, though, so it'll probably get better. At least, I hope so... |

Why would you want a mouse? I've been useing my Wiimote as my mouse on my PC. It’s quite crazy when you think we have a gyroscopic mouse at work that cost £600 (and that’s UK£ not US$) 2 years ago. If it breaks we should replace it with the Wiimote for £30.

Wii, posting from a whee! ...Or something like that.
I found one at EB Games, no Zelda tho. Typing on this is a pain; could be vastly improved with minor tweaks. Wii Sports is mildly amusing, but seems to lose track of the Wiimote. After a few swings my bat ends up way off from where it should be, forcing me to bat left-handed, or my club only responds if I hold it in front of mf chest and swing (carefully!) toward my face, and I can no longer do less than a half-power shot. Anyone else had this problem? Gonna try Excite Truck in a minute, we'll see if it's better there. Also the browser's word-guessing feature is dumb. It goofs up if you backspace, doesn't account for hyphens and other punctuation, and keeps adding ".us" to the end of words it inserts at random. Also, after any symbol such as #$@ etc, you can't type an uppercase letter, which is a pain when your password starts like this. And why is "nagasaki" one of the first in the list for "n"? First, how often does an English spea-- OK why can't I type anymore, bah, finishing this on the computer --ker use this word, and second, why does it not start with a capital? Yeah, the browser is neat but needs work. (edited by Alice on 01-16-07 09:44 PM) |

Yeah, I was surprised too. Excite Truck is sweet, especially when you play your own music in it. Not easy, but once you get the hang of it (tip: the D-pad is NOT used for steering) not especially difficult either. Nintendo needs to learn about a little thing called directories though, as opposed to listing all the images/MP3s/etc on the entire SD card when you choose an image or song. (And you have to be viewing an image slideshow to play MP3s in the Wii Menu, and it supports only .jpg, .mov and .mp3. )
The controller can turn the system on and off which is a nice bonus. Now when I get up I can turn it on, check the weather to see if it's worth going to work, play some music to keep me from falling back asleep, etc all from bed. Yay laziness. Also, no noticeable responsiveness problems in ET (lol), except sometimes if you turn really hard to the left you start going right, not hard to avoid though. Now I want Zelda. BTW, those who are complaining of slow updates might want to do as the manual says and use wireless channels 1 or 11 on your router. Seems to work just fine for me. (And I can tell whenever it accesses the Internet because lines will flicker on the screen because my TV is old and tiny.) One minor thing that bugged me was the A/V cables. For three generations Nintendo has used the same connector; you could take the cables from a SNES and use them with an N64 or Gamecube. I found this quite useful; leave one end plugged into the TV and switch the other end as necessary. Wii, however, has some new cable connector. Also: this thing is freaking small! |

Aww, man.... So jealous of all you guys who already have Wiis Guess it serves me right for being under 18. I have school to worry about. No camping out at the stores for me. Hopefully we'll get one by the end of the month, but even that is doubtful... the nearest game store to us is about 45 min. away.
On the plus side, we did get Zelda, Twilight Princess for Christmas. |

No, but it looks a bit different. Also, has anyone else noticed their Wii emitting a fairly loud repetitive click sound through the speakers when turned off?

Well, my Wii arrived yesterday, and has been generally awesome so far. 8 hours of consecutive multiplayer with half the other guys at the dorm in Wii Sports, Far Cry and Street Fighter II should speak for itself. |
