I want a good layout, and half of you would agree with me when I say I NEED a new one.

So yeah, how would I be able to have a background, and then a text box with a different background? How do I create tables? How do I expand them? How do I make a decent layout without.... Making it look bad?

Well, for my layout, all I used was a table, with CSS for my quotes and links and that, plus a nice picture.

Do you know HTML?

If not, my suggestion to you is that you learn HTML. And practice it a lot till you get the effect you want.

There are lots of HTML sites on the internet that can teach you, so have a look around and find one. I know a really easy one that schools around here use -- http://www.lissaexplains.com -- but it has popups and is for "kids".

Personally, I learned from a HTML book, and over time was gradually able to work out how to do things with it.

This place has a decent tutorial on html that will for the most part explain the basics pretty clearly, which is really all you need. Basic knowledge of html, properly strung together, with CSS optional, = layout.

So find a background you like. That's looking much better than your previous stuff, nice job.

Thanks.

Well, I'm having trouble learning how to add a text box background instead of a whole background that covers the whole post. Sorta like yours. I want a color, and an image of something else to add in the back. Know what I mean?

Just put it inside the table, or assign the background to the table (or individual cell) with something like <table border="whatever" cellpadding="something" background="the url to a background image" width="100%"> or <td bgcolor="a color that'd work well as a background">.

It's, uh, more correct to close your tds and trs before you close the table. The way you have it now will screw up some of the more esoteric browsers which interpret html literally.

Wow, does that mean I should fix my layout?

I have never closed any of my TD or TR tags.

Are you serious? No, you're joking, right? Always... ALways remember to close all your tags; wether it's an image tag, or a link tag; always remember to close them.

Yeah, Alastor is right; you have to make sure to close them before closing the table. It depends on how you have it set up. If you have it set up as table, tr, td, then close it as /td, /tr, /table.

I'm not joking. I never close TD's, TR's, and IMG tags. I've never had problems when I don't... so, yeah.

Oh, you mean an image tag? Or were you asking some other question? I was pointing out that those, too, have to be closed. Normally people don't due so since it doesn't look like anything's going to really happen.

View page source of someone with a layout similar to yours, that also has a background. Look at the source and see how they got the background in. Follow their example with the background of your choice, and mess with it until it works.
VOILA

Note: I've never made a layout.

EDIT: Try putting htis code into your layout, Riku.

Header:
<table border="0" width="100%" height="100%" background="http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/MarioMaster2654/xmas2green.jpg"><tr><Td><br><br><table border="8" width="100%" cellpadding="><tr><td width="50%" valign="middle"><td bgcolor="660808"><center><br>

Signature:

<br></center></td></tr></table><br><br></td></tr></table>

Oh, and make sure that when you copy the code, there are no line breaks in the header or signature. That's what causes the big spaces above and below your post.

It should come out somehting like this:

POST!
