That's odd then. Since I think your posts are some of the easier ones to read. You seem pretty normal to me. | |||

I've managed to get 30-something by typing in "testtesttesttesttesttesttest" over and over... again, this tool is rather dubious.

YOUR BARGAINING POSTURE IS HIGHLY DUBIOUS.
my posts should be easy to read. i don't think many of them pass over three sentences. i usually type short, simple, and to the point. i don't read long posts so i won't write long posts either. 10.75. and it said this was all 1 sentence. smart. |

Originally posted by Xkeeper I already said how it works, and that if you don't use proper English, then you'll get erroneous results. And that sounds about right, I find your posts very easy to read, for which I thank you. |

I'd like to think that my posts aren't difficult to read, but I will admit that I'm more than a little guilty of "waffle".
When I started using the internet, I didn't write as much when I tried to make a point. But as I found my words taken more and more out of context, I found I started using more and more words to try to make my intent clear. It probably doesn't work, and that would have worried me before. However, I'm now more of the opinion that I don't give a Flying Fuck. |

Originally posted by KamekOriginally posted by Xkeeper Personally, one must consider the post as well as the grade. If it's just one long simple sentence, then it can have a inflated grade level. One must mentally adjust for that. Example: Thus, having proven that one cannot assume ceteris paribus considering in said case that a given voter with attribute A will vote (to cast a vote for a given candidate in a given democratic system, such as that of the United States's democratic system) for a given candidate with attribute A, I continue to say that "Christian" values can be carried by one who is not in fact Christian. That's a 21.17. But anyone can read that. |

I wonder what the man-pages would get. Edit: The US-Patent for Dr. Mario gets for the first 10000 Characters a whooping 18.78. (edited by PrincessPeach on 01-18-07 01:53 PM) |

Originally posted by PrincessPeach Spelling errors usually cause the grade level go up, hence the need for proofreading to make sure that said content is coherent, since this tool uses a dictionary to figure out the syllables of each word, to the best of my knowledge. Also, this tool really doesn't account for grammar, not directly in any case, but awkward grammar usage decreases readability. But again, I must reiterate that this tool need not define the grade level needed to read a text with the degree of accuracy that some people have noted, it is only a tool, and its results are to be used with proper judgment; oftentimes a perfectly simple post such as this one will register a grade level incongruent to its actual difficulty. |

Then it is my belief it would be excellent if they could improve the tool. I believe it might be valuable.
Also I think most of the strife in this topic came from the fact some people took it as denouncing complex posts, which a number of people utilize. However the number of syllables isn't the be-all and end-all of difficulty; using basic words, one can exp |

I'm pretty sure that two years of university level essay writing, and debating at uni, have destroyed my ability to talk below that sort of level. I'm averaging 14.5 with any given post in the debate forum, and even my discussion of beer yielded nearly a 13.
Ho-hum. Let's see what George Orwell had to say about this:

I've read it before, but I don't see why you point out that you cannot talk "below that sort of level." Are you saying that you cannot minimize the usage of polysyllabic diction in your debating, or that you have become a modern-English speaker? I'm pretty sure that either way, that isn't exactly a talent. |
