Well, I think it's about time I bring this game back to life. It was a success here on the old board (and I think I tried to revive once here on this board), but I'm going to see this one through to the end. Here are the rules of the game:
(1) I'm going to give 3 items. Your task is to come up with the common link for those items. The first one to respond with the correct response will receive the point value of the set. Set point values could range anywhere from one to five points, depending on the difficult of the set. (2) During the course of the game, I will give periodical bonuses. At every 10th round, I will give clues for a Mystery Character/Person which will be worth 5 points on the first try. After every turn that the Mystery Character/Person is not correctly given, 1 point will be taken away from the bonus. But I will continue to give clues, even when the bonus gets down to one point. After every 20 rounds, a 3-point bonus question will be asked. (3) The first person to 300 points wins. But, there's a twist -- if a person answers a certain amount of questions in a row, that person will receive smiley faces. These are good to add additional points* to your score. You can use them anytime you want. If you answer 4 questions in a row, you get 1 smiley, 8 questions get 2 smilies, and 12 questions get 3 smilies. If you answer 20 in a row, you will receive 5 smilies!! (4) Here's new feature of this game: Add any point during the game, I will give random bonus sets that will be worth anywhere from 10 to 20 points and will be significantly harder than the normal sets (1 to 5 points). These sets could come up at any time, so watch out for them. (5) Just a few things about responding to the sets: (a) If two people respond at the same time with the same correct answer, the person that has their post show up first will receive credit for the answer. (b) If no one responds to the set after a certain amount of time, I will revise my last post, and put up a hint. If the set is worth more than one point, I will remove a point from the total set value. (c) Please try to explain your answers a bit, so it's just not one-word responses. ![]() * Smiley Faces Explained: Smiley Faces are multipliers depending on the number of smilies you have. 1 smiley = 2x point value, 2 smiles = 3x, 3 smiles = 4x, 4 smiles = 5x, and 5 smiles = 10x!! Keep in mind that if someone else gets a set correct in the middle of your streak, you lose that streak and the smilies, so be careful. If anyone has any questions about the rules here, you can PM me or ask me in this thread. Hopefully we can go all the way this time! ![]() SET #1: notebook paper, donuts, records (vinyl) |

Both of those answers are very good, but neither of those answers are the ones I was thinking of. (Note: Maybe somewhere down the line, I will have sets that will have more than one answer. This particular set clearly has multiple answers -- these are perhaps the best ones.) (edited by VGFreak877 on 01-06-07 04:02 PM) |

There was never a Star Trek movie, show, or episode that had the acronym DPS; the closest was Deep Space Nine which can be represented as DSN or DS9 (the latter being favored by most fans).. TNG and V are obviously The Next generation and Voyager respectively so DPS is either the Department of Public Safety or a typo.
On a related note there's a Star Trek movie coming our in 2008 and it might carry the DPS acronym so we may just have to wait and see. (edited by AMazur on 01-07-07 11:46 AM) |

Haha, it shows I can actually make the same mistake twice. Anyway, I'm going to throw this question out and post another one. But I wasn't tryping to post official abbreviations, just the first letter of each one. Yeah, I was trying to do Deep Space Nine -- it was a typo. Sorry about that folks. Here another Set #4.
