So, did you ever play with your siblings when you were younger? I mean games, and I mean normal games. And have you ever played any...interesting games? Well, the other day, a nine year old boy in Pakistan played an interesting game with his ten year old sister. The results of their little game made the news. The police were involved as well, and there's word that some people could be charged with crimes.

...

They were re-enacting Saddam Hussein's execution. The brother and sister were trying to copy what they saw in the execution video. The parents tried to help him, but it was too late. He died. The parents could potentially be charged with negligence for this accidental death.

You can read the article itself here.

I'm not surprised, many people die due to negligence each year. Especially young children.

I didn't really think it was funny at all, actually. I know a lot of assholes, and typically, it is very far from the kind of thing they would think is humorous either. I think you have your personality descriptor terms confused, there.

The whole situation is a sickening bit of evidence which shows just how powerful of a combination the media and negligent parenting can be.

Then maybe I'm deemed sick and twisted by society's standards? People die all the time (yes kids too, yes because of their parents). The more you hear about it the more you're used to it, and its alot easier to find something you're used to hearing about funny than something you consider taboo. The media sure likes to make it known that people die all the time, so wouldn't that set it the norm that we're all used to people dying? So I guess maybe I'm normal. Or just Sick. Maybe I'm just talking offtopic though

Perhaps it is not necessary to respond to this, as it is almost self-explanatory, but yet, you make no sense. Humor is not based on, as you say, "something you're used to". Humor usually has a base in surprise and things which are not expected. Therefore, if as you claim, you're so desensitized to death that it is only to be expected, then there should be no humor in it; it should not evoke any emotion in you. Taking humor in something which you think is commonplace is contradictory. Nonetheless, whatever your motivation and thought processes, that's your entitlement. I just wanted to point out that I don't know any people who take humor in the demise of innocent children.

Negligent parenting?! That's pathetic.
The kids were playing in the other room!
No parent ever keeps an eye on their children 24/7.
I don't see how the parents should be made responsible.

There are many types of humor. I would say one type of humor is based on something you are used to seeing, but done in a different fashion. ie. billy puts on his boxers then his pants, normal, billy puts on his pants, then his boxers, along the same lines of what you're used to seeing, but morphed, in which case it could be found as funny by some.

Well you do now? :p

I make no attempt to defend myself and I didn't entirely mean that what I find humorous is normal by any means, which is why I pre-stated my assholeness.

edit

I don't see how the parents should be made responsible.

I would say it is the parents responsibilty to teach children not to kill themselves, to monitor the TV that the children watch, and to let the children know, if they do allow them to watch hangings, what exactly is happening and why they should not do it.

at 9? We used to marry kids off around that age. If anyone doesn't know their head from their ass by the time they are 9 they have a serious problem. And should be hugn.

You're very wrong. Very. Why do parents exist, setz? To care for children. And not just to feed the children because they cannot generate their own food; parents teach kids the difference between right and wrong, good behavior and misconduct, etc., etc. If your hypothesis is correct, why do parents even keep kids around until ~18 years old? Hell, they should just kick kids out at 9 years old, and whatever they don't know, I'm sure they'll get by. After all, they're completely responsible for their behavior and can make completely rational decisions, right? You didn't know shit when you were nine, and you probably would've done the same exact thing if you grew up as these children did, and in their situations. Same as the rest of us.

I knew enough to know my head from my ass. Perhaps you should've phrased it better. Most families I know only keep their children until they turn 18 because they are infact required by law, and if the laws allowed children to work at younger ages and live such as adults you would actually probably see a good bit more children on the street. I am not disagreeing that children only know what they are taught, as I noted earlier when Is aid the parents were infact responsible, if you're taught nothing then yeahs ure go hang yoruself.

I was exaggerating. I used sarcasm. I thought you'd pick that up. 18 isn't the do-all, end-all age in any way; different situations warrant different results, but I think 9 might be a little too god damn early to be responsible for one's own actions. They way you speak of the subject, it is almost as if you believe these children deserved to die. Oh well, good luck with that.

I believe the problem is that one has taken Setz's argument and applied a slippery slope to it, saying that he wants children to die when in reality he merely laughed at this bizarre occurrence. I do not believe he wants random children to die or that he hates children; rather I believe he has been pointed at for laughing at something considered taboo in many cultures.

You mean to tell me you wouldn't know that hmmmm.... rope+around me neck = ???

Thats like suggesting you wouldn't know a stove is hot. I think the kids were aware but wanted to make a "game" of it as it was said.

Sadly, although this is clearly the parents' fault for not teaching their kids not to be dumbasses and allowing them to watch that video, instead, the media will once again take the blame. I just wonder how they'll manage to link it to video games this time.

I honestly don't even buy that's what actually happened. I just can't see two kids constructing a working noose, getting it securely attached to a ceiling fan, and carrying out an 'execution', all while their parents are in the next room.
