It's taking me too long to work out what things are.

New Adobe CS3 Icons

I've worked out where Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, Flash, Flex, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, ColdFusion and Acrobat are, but there are a few I'm not sure about. For example -- "Ai" = Adobe Illustrator?

This is confusing. I also can't work out why some things are grouped together with certain colours...

EDIT: however, it is fun matching up some things with Elements from the Periodic Table. Br -- Bromine and Adobe Bridge

Can you work out what all the icons are?

Makes sense to me. The lowercase i is odd I guess...

It does suck, but I can see why they chose those letters.

Nice design, horrible implementation. I mean... what's wrong with an icon that shows you what the software does or has a snazzy logo?

I couldn't name three-quarters of those apps.

Not sure about most of them, but I definitely like the old Photoshop and Illustrator icons better.

It seems like a company known for its graphic design software could come up with better icons then squares with letters in them.

Hey hey hey!! Give them a little more credit than that!! It has a gradientish thing too

But yes.... I thought an "icon" -- as far as computer stuff goes -- is supposed to be a small, graphical representation of what the application is -- ie, a Photo program might have a little camera. I fail to see what is "graphical" about this -- it's text! And not even descriptive text!!

There surely would be a way to design/unify the Macromedia and Adobe icons so that they are clearly identifiable both as a set AND have some individual significance... right?

Flash brought nothing but bad advertisements into the world for me, and Adobe brought nothing but bloated documents and system-crashing memory leaks to me, so generally I'd go beyond the icons and say Adobe sucks, especially for making software far more expensive than I can afford.

But these icons... Gah! I wouldn't like them even if I liked adobe.

Flash has some useful applications, and Photoshop is nice. However, I agree with you that the person who decided Flash should be embeddable in web pages needs to be tortured and Adobe's PDF viewer sucks balls.

And even then you can only use the reader to, you know, READ stuff. I remember when Acrobat itself cost... well... more than I could afford.

Well how much does Photoshop cost now? About as much as a decent used car?

Funny that they charge so much for a PDF creator when OpenOffice does it for free. Speaking of free, FoxIt is a nice PDF viewer that doesn't suck balls.

here's what google turned up:
http://stellify.net/visualize-express/adobe-cs3-program-icons-alphabet-soup-on-a-color-wheel-and-what-they-mean/

specifically, here are the abbreviations matched with the names of the programs, with asterisks marking uncertain matches:
AE - After Effects
Ai - Illustrator
Au - Audition
Aw - Authorware
Br - Bridge
CF - ColdFusion
Co - Contribute
Cp - Captivate
Di - Director
Dw - Dreamweaver
En - Encore DVD
FB - Flex Builder*
FH - FreeHand
Fl - Flash
FM - FrameMaker
Fw - Fireworks
Fx - Flex
Gl - GoLive
IC - InCopy
ID - InDesign
JR - JRun/JobReady*
LC - LiveCycle
LR - LightRoom
PM - PageMaker
Pr - Premiere
Ps - Photoshop
RH - RoboHelp
Sb - Soundbooth
VC - Version Cue*

while i don't like the idea of the icons very much, it is somewhat easier to tell different programs apart; with the cs2 icons, photoshop and imageready looked darn near identical.
