I was stuck at what to do for level one of my hack (I can't work on my other hack until my computer gets fixed), so I thought of auto-scroll. Then I wanted a tide, but it would ruin the rest of the level. So here's my thought: Is there any way to make a block that creates a tide out of nowhere? As in: You hit the block, the layer 3 tide pops up. Help?

Autoscroll and tide ruin your level? It doesn't in my hack. I have no clue about the block, but make sure you didn't go over screen 0F. You can't use tides after 0F.
Or have you got another purpose? |

You could always have Mario go into a pipe to another room...

Is the Layer 3 tide a sprite, as in a command?
If so, maybe you could create a block that spawns sprite #__, which would be the tide command. |

I assume it would. As far as I know, the tides disappear because the Layer 3 object (Message Box) appears, and leads to a conclusion that there can be only one Layer 3 object at the screen. If there's a tide, there's no messages. If the message is visible, the tides die. So yeah, if you somehow manage to change it so that.. You know, it'd spawn the tides instead of the message plate. But I don't know. I could be all wrong, so don't count on that. |

you may be able to find a RAM address that controls the tides, try looking around the area that contains the level header info in RAM. Layer 3 tides is a level header bitfield. |
