I started to do some PHP again, but doing it all with no hightlightning colours or any type of auto formatting is kinda annoying.
So any suggestions for a editor that works well spefically for PHP scripts? |

No, but there's Crimson Editor. It has PHP support and toggleable finding brackets, and if you tell it where your PHP parser is you can have it parse your script all command-line-like with a push of a key. Any key, even.
Since it's not PHP-specific it's not what you asked, but it's what I use. It has tabs and everything yet is not hugely bloatastic. Plus, window splitter. Don't tell me that's not cool. I use MadEdit. Tabbed stuff, highlighting, plus it'll do anything I want it to. Easy to use, too. It's my choice, 'cause I'm insaaaane.

Notepad2 is what I use, it's light and does not try to be overly complex.
Read the wiki about it for more info (edited by Darkdata on 12-31-06 11:54 AM) |

vim for the win.
Or in your case, gvim. |

i use Textpad for about everything. it doesn't directly support php either, but with a *.syn file it will perform syntax coloring. you can also set it up so that your external compiler/assembler/etc appears as a command under the "Tools" menu. the program is shareware, but the unregistered version works just fine for me.

I use Textpad too, but I didn't manage to find a .syn file for PHP that worked. Which did you use? Without them it has some annoying problems with the ' and " characters.

GVim ftw. The highlighting by default uses the same scheme that php.net uses (or did php.net copy vim? who knows), of course you can change it if you want |
