I guess it was inevitable, but everything seems to have changed in the world...

zophar's domain (the greatist emulation site ever) was announced dead by it's owner, the dreamcast development scene is (seemingly) stagnent... at this point 3-4 years ago, we expected full-speed genesis and SNES emulation on it, maybe even N64/Sega Saturn! but that never happened, did it?

more than that, all the once great rom sites (aside from emu paradise -- not linking to it, I know, Its illegal) seem to be gone, and the few that still exist peddle around PD roms.

maybe it is illegal, but hey, there was a time when we could download music/games for free kiddies, it may have been against the law, but we did it. and it was a LOT easier to do than today. back then, every fanpage had a rom on it. every site (as well as the original napster)
had MP3s.

as far as filesharing goes, kazaa light is no longer usable. It just wont connect. Bittorrent just isnt the same, better or worse, its still different.

most of the sites I once went to are gone... sites like megaman universe (dang, that MMXZ had some great graphics skills.) are gone, but Sonic HQ and Dcemulation are, surprisingly, still around. sites like GameFAQs have just plain changed. Gamewinners hasnt changed for as long as I can remember, and it still remains teh same, at least.

the sonic cartoon which many considered the greatist (SaTam) has been gone for over 10 years (I kinda miss watching it as a kid)

I've lost hope in them ever continuing the Megaman Legends series (It ROCKED) and ever actually giving a conclusion to the X or Original sagas. ZX just isnt the same for me.
Heck, I hated zero's takeover in MMZ, and they just go and kill him too. oh well.

Genecyst is no longer the greatist genesis emulator, and hasnt been for awhile. I remember it's sickly gruesome GUI (the version I got had a bloody hand as a cursor)...

heck, sega doesnt even make consoles anymore (really a disappointment to me), adn their games seem to be loosing quality now that Sammy has bought out a majority of their stock.

things have changed in my real life as well. I quit wrestling -- I didnt feel like being a dumba** anorexic. seriously, thats what those guys do. starve themselves, take laxitives to lose weight (some are on steriods too), and dehydrate to lose weight as well.

1 salad a day isnt enough for a 16 yo guy. heck, they wanted me at 112, Im 16, male, about 5'8". thats not healthy. I ate (a full) dinner 2 nights before a match, and told coach I was quitting. now im training year-round to be (a good) runner.

im not a little kid anymore either. I can remember back before I knew anything about computers. I've come a loooong way. longer than many ever believed I could, and I plan to go farther. I can remember when I was an 11y/o lying about his age (COPPA Laws) so he could post on web-forums. My parents were paranoid of the internet then. they know nothing of computers, and are ignorant on the subject.

just think, if I didnt break their rules while they slept, I might never have posted a message on a forum! to be honest, I had no friends for a long time, and forums were the only places I could chat with real people outside of school then.

I remember my first dream, back on an old HP Pavilion (which I still have) with 644MHz and 64MB(I think) Ram. had windows ME on it. It was to program my own RPG. so I started learning qbasic... I left it and went back to it many times, eventually accepting it was worthless. I never accomplished that dream (yet). Then I started to use RapidQ (like visual basic, hasnt been an active project for years now) for GUI Development. I made a small suite of programs to help teach others HTML with it, called HTML Check. essentially, it was a quiz-type application to see if you knew your HTML. I made about 5-6 (maybe more, I cant remember) versions of it.

I then moved on to web programming. at first I knew nothing and used Geocities' site-builder. then I decided to learn HTML. I was a fool and thought I could make an HTML forum (LOL) ! (hey, I was like 11 and never really had any access to the internet or a computer before). So, after getting laughed at, I learned HTML. then, thirsting for more power I leared some basic PHP. went back and learned CSS while I was at it.

I also learned much more about PHP through the source code for PHPBB and ACMLMboard 1.7/1.8. I remember when we expected 2.0 to be released by christmas over 2-3 years ago... that happened. lol.

I moved on to create a new site, with a custom coded layout (not too nice, but it was my own) and custom CMS. I never did code a forum, but it was always a dream I used to have.

then, I learned C/C++. not like the last few times though, this time I went into it deep. I started with C/C++ and Allegro, and now use SDL. several times I have come close to completing a phalanx-style shooter, but each time my code/graphics get erased through probelms that require me to reformat my HDD (XP decided not to boot last time, and linux was not yet installed on this machine)

I lost all my code (over 3 or 4 pages of more than 100+ lines of code each and a custom header file w/ global variables and custom functions + graphics for the player, enemies, backgrounds, and a menu).

I dont think I'll start that again. too much work was lost last time, and I hit a bump that totally halted development for more than 2 months. I have, however, coded many nonsense applications in C, and a few semi-useful ones.

the only useful app (other than my ancient HTML Check... I dont even think it exists anymore, anywhere, not on any server, though Im gonna look now that I remember it)
is a small, command-line calculator, which I also have lost the source code for. though creating a calculator is beyond easy.

outside of computers, my life has seemed to remain stagnant. nothing new has happened to me since I was about 11 or 12, and that was the internet and computer access. Im 16, and know as little about love/relationships as a 10 year old, which I see as pathetic (and believe me, I do beat myself up over it). Trust me, Im very hard on myself. I dont have much money, and no job right now. no real direction in life either -- I just dont feel as though I have any reason to work hard.

all that stuff just adds on to the nostalgia. a week ago, I found myself dialing into old MSN DUNs (hacked dial-up accounts) even though I knew they hadnt worked since 02 (or earlier). I did it just so I could remember the good 'ol times getting free internet access for my dreamcast.

but aside from that, I guess Im looking for change. change in myself. It seems the world didnt wait for me after all, and it's already changed, for better or for worse, on it's own.

I find myself wanting to change who I am. physically, socially, morally, and mentally. I realise that a lot of what I do/think is wrong. I need to gain weight. and I need to mature mentally too. I also need to remove this huge block on my shoulders -- im not sure why its there, but it puts me so deep in thought that Im locked into my own world in my mind. it slows down my reaction time to things, as Im not paying attention, and makes me appear a lot stupider than I am (I have an IQ of over 130 -- dont remember it exactly, but its somewhere between 130 and 150).

and also,(this is beyond off topic) I have severe short term memory problems. It has been damaged badly for some reason since my birth. I compensate for putting most important info in my long-term memory (nice, because I can fall asleep and haev teh memory waiting for when I wake, and I dont need to study for tests), however I often repeat myself and tell the same story 100 times.

so the times have changed. the world is a different place. for better or worse, this is the way things are. I cant go back, and I guess I've accepted that I need to change along with the times...

I know I went way off topic a bunch of times, but oh well. just typing out whatever I thought/felt. Im going to (try) to write some poetry and maybe an essay or two now that Im done here. comment/complain/call me an idiot if you wish. and if this post is too long, feel free to delete it/move it/lock it.

Once when I was three I played a trick on my mom by hiding under a pile of blankets for like five hours, she even called the police.

That was the good old days.

I wouldn't worry about what little happened in the 4 years between 12 and 16. At that age you really have little say in the big changes in life, and take it from someone who knows, when you no say in the changes, they're rarely good. You should consider yourself lucky.

As far as the focus and memory issues go, you likely have ADD.

Eh. It's worse when you were around before spyware, n00bs, and DDOS attacks, and then suddenly all this new stuff comes in and demands to be glorified. Screw that. Old message boards, non-n00bs, and a safe internet foreverrr!!!!!

yeh, i know how you feel. isn't it funny, thinking back 4 years ago and how much you've changed? i think in general, everything that's happened to me has been good for me in the long run, even if it hurts in the short run, but i suppose it's only what happens later on that can matter the most. we can be haunted by our pasts, hate what's happening to us now, and dread the future, but all we can really do is shape our futures.

take what comes at you like a man. if it sucks, it's going to suck and it will probably hurt, but don't let it just hurt you. learn from it and you'll never be broken.

shit that was cliché.

doctors said I have a short term memory deficiency when I was a kid. heh... I forgot what I was saying there -- took me about 3 minutes to remember the word "deficiency". lol.

I dont have ADD though (even though people said I had ADHD).

I can pay attention well (and multitask), as long as I sleep enough that is (Ive been staying up all night and falling asleep in class recently). Not only that, but when I DID take medication, it made me pay less attention, hyper, and forget more.

in essence, all the ADD drugs Ive taken have actually caused me to have ADD. Ive taken over 20 types of medication from the time I was 5-10. Only one I remember is riddlen, but if someone mentioned more names, Im sure Id remember.

second I stopped taking them, all the problems were gone (except for the memory). I have a good mind to think that it is actually the drugs that damaged my memory.

you see, I only know what Ive been told, and I myself cannot remember much about 11 years ago. at least not enough to tell you how good my memory was.

Few random things:

1. I just checked the site I usually go for for roms. Its still up, and is by far the best place I've been going to for the last few years. It has TONS of stuff. Its mainly just best for NES, SNES, and a few other random systems. PM me if you're interested.

2. Sonic SaTaM is awesome. Well, guess what? Expect a full DVD release of the series in early 2007. I recently bought a bootleg of it off of eBay, and then a few days later learned its finally getting a release very soon. Here's one good source, but you'll find similar news everywhere.

That show definitely owned, and my bootleg is like ... I don't know, not much better than youtube. So I can't wait.

3. Hey, everyone in the world has ADD and ADHD.
Edit: Alright, I see what you mean about this and memory. I'm not sure what to say here.

And you're 16. Are you still in High School? (sorry if you mentioned this, I'll admit I scanned the majority of your first post ). If so, expect life to drastically change in the next few years for you. For better or worse, it's going to change quite a bit. (College).

Oh, and finally I can agree with someone about the Megaman series. I've stood by and given my full support to the Megaman series since I was 3-4 years old, constantly renting Megaman 1-6 every week. But now, I'd have to say Zero has ruined it for me. He should've died like he was supposed to at the end of X2 or X3 or something, that would've been epic and nice. But now, as you can clearly see in ZX, Zero is basically the new Megaman (fact is the ZX model is entirely Zero). I can't say I cared for the Zero series on the GBA, and after beating ZX I looked back at it and all I had to say was "Wow, that just wasn't anything special at all". I want guns, and guns only. Enough of the swords. What is this, Strider?

Oh well, I'll stick to Megaman 1-6 and X-X3 until the end of Capcom. And who should've been brought into the X series in place of Zero? Check out my title.
