I was at Toys R Us last night, and while browsing in the "R" Zone, a copy of the player's choice version of Mario Kart: Super Circuit caught my eye. "Score!", I thought to myself. After all, the game is $19.99 and I got a $20 reward for making the honor roll. So we went to ring it up. But it came up as $34.95! "WTF?!?", I thought to myself. Even though I still got it, I was still mad because I thought every Players Choice title was $19.99, regardless if it's a GBA or GameCube game. Later at Sears, I saw a copy of Super Circuit for the same $34.95 price tag. This one didn't have the Player's Choice banner, so I understood the price of that particular copy. Now, should the Toys R Us copy have cost $19.99 or was I mistaken? Or did Toys R Us just lose another customer?
Feedback and Information is appreciated! |

The MSRP for Player's Choice games is $19.99. Odds are they just tried to gouge you and weren't following Nintendo's recommendation.
(They're $29.99 here. I really need to get Tales of Symphonia one day at that price.) |

It's that time of year again... (hint hint... Christmas) that happy joyful time when stores make you pay a Hell of alot more than you should. What I suggest is going to Gamestop. Thay respect the players choice there. (not for used copies though.)

It's not gouging, it's just ignorance.

While it is true that it is pathetic, both are accurate.

Oh come on, Toys R' Us is awesome. Especially with that Wii scandal they had.

Legally, the price displayed on the selves is the price you must be charged for the item. It's an underhanded trick that stores use for when people buy in bulk and are too tired to double check their math.

Nah, it's gouging. MOST stores here follow the MSRP for Player's Choice games so those who don't are obviously trying to make an extra buck or two.

Originally posted by Ten Now that you mention it, there was no card for Super Circuit from what I saw, so I just safely assumed it was the customary $19.99 for a Player's Choice title. |

If the price tag says $19.99 and your receipt says $34.95, I suggest you go back and point out their mistake.

Last time I checked, Mario Kart was still in the $34 dollar range. Can't say I've seen a player's choice box for it either. But if the game had a price sticker on it for a lower price, thats the price you're suppose to pay. It tends to happen at work sometimes, and I lower the price for them b/c thats what you're suppose to do. Now if it didn't have a sticker on it, I still would have said something to the clerk about player choice games are all set at $19.99 unless its a bundle (like the Resident Evil box set we have. All three games say players choice, but they're in a package together, making the price over $19.99).

It wasn't in a bundle of any sort. Just the game. And without a doubt, the Player's Choice banner was there. I bought a Player's Choice Super Mario Advance 3 before this (At Wal-Mart) and it went for the correct $19.99 price, no problems. And I did mention to the clerk that Player's Choice titles are $19.99, and although he said I was right (no duh ), we still "gave" them a nice $15 tip. (The tip? Get your freaking prices right!!)
And there was no price tag from what I saw. I just logically assumed it was $19.99 because of the Player's Choice banner on the box. |

MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price
Does not mean they have to follow the suggestion. |

They haven't started doing Players Choice for DS games, hence the prices staying at that level.
I usually look at the pricetag first before just assuming the price of a game. |
