it'd be nice to have descriptions of why you do not like them...

Anyways, I haven't run into an RPG I didn't like so none for me. I do have gripes with a few of them though, like the FF8 draw system. But yeah, I've been pleased with all of the games.

1. Lunar: The Silver Star Story
Reason: It just doesn't seem really interesting. No good battle features; basically nothing good about it.

That's basically it. I had completely forgot about Golden Sun... I haven't played that in a while.

Alright, I know I'm not a mod here, but I think that whoever is or will be would want a bit more detail than just a list.

Chris, I'm gonna be nice and warn you that Black Lord will, without a doubt, kill you for that the moment he sees your post. Although I'm gonna ask if you refer to the original or the PSX remake...

I haven't played too many RPGs, though, and none of them have been bad. So, here's my list of least-favorites, and some reasons for them. Note that I do play them sometimes anyway...

1. Legend of Dragoon. Not a bad game by any stretch, but there's something about it that I just don't like. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but I'm guessing it's about the battles. Additions are a nice idea, but they can get pretty frustrating. Dragoon Magic has its drawbacks as well; some attacks have animations that are too long (and unlike FF8's GFs, you can't boost their power more with a longer animation), and under the magic system in LoD, you can't use magic without transforming into a Dragoon or using certain items. Even worse, Dragoons can't heal unless they have a healing spell (which is only one of them, I think), which gets very frustrating. Graphically, it's not the greatest, but it's a PS1 game, what do you expect?

Despite that, I still wouldn't call it a BAD game. Just not the best.

2. FFVIII. Other people have said it before... but it's true: I fell asleep while playing this game. That alone would earn it a spot on the list, but then you add the flawed Junction system (which makes it absurdly easy to get godlike characters), the Drawing (which just gets boring), and the fact that the plot just dies after Disc 1... yeah, not my favorite game around. Triple Triad helps save it, however, as does the fact that until, oh, I'd guess the trip to space, the game's not too bad, if a bit easy.

3. FFII: Tedium concentrated. Trying to boost stats is a painful chore, as is levelling up weapon proficiencies and magic levles. It wouldn't be so bad if, as in Morrowind, it wasn't completely needed, but in FFII you do pathetic damage and take a shitload if you DON'T spend all that time boosting your stats. It was a good idea, but a bad execution. Maybe if stats came a bit faster (as in Dawn of Souls), but in its original incarnation and FFOrigins, too slow.

4. FFIV. Linearity anyone? I'd have liked a bit more freedom than what this game made available. By which I mean any freedom; two side-dungeons with optional bosses just don't cut it.

Hmm... yeah, I don't have much experience with bad RPGs. Guess I'm lucky that way. Think I might have overdone the 'more detail' bit, though.

-S-T-O-R-Y- Its all about the story, Luna to Alex wa kawaii. The interest comes in the story, who cares about the game play as long as you have good story. Leave the good game play to the games with out story, or for the games in which you make your own story.

I enjoyed Golden Sun, it had good gameplay story, it was harder to follow because of all the sub plots.

*smites Tamarin*

It's still one of the games that would be considered the most influential in RPG history, since it ended up doing very well on the SNES. It was pretty hard to ask a console RPG for open-ended gameplay back then to begin with. I mean, Dragon Warrior III came out around that time and I think it was one of the first console RPG's where you could mix and match your party and have the characters you wanted in it.

The reason why I hate those kinda of games because I don't like the battle system. The mega man battle network battle system I really hate.

Lufia. I don't care if people like it, I hate it. It's just too boring for me.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. That game just bites. It doesn't deserve to be called "FF"

Fable. Short. Boring. Repetitive. Crappy storyline. Short. I bought it, beat it that night, and returned it.

Thats it. Sorry if you guys like them, I don't.

I agree that FF mystic quest was not really that much of a final fantasy game, but it had to do with the four crystals.

Golden Sun. I had high expectation, but found it very boring and uninteresting, partily due to its simplicity.

How could you not like Golden Sun and MMBN?

Anyway, onto more relevent matters.. My least favorite RPGs I suppose are Breath of Fire I and II. They both bored me after a while, but I still liked them. Come to think of it, I don't really dislike any RPG.

"Lufia. I don't care if people like it, I hate it. It's just too boring for me."

That makes me cry.
How far did you get in the game before you quit? The puzzles are intense.

I could see some people maybe not being crazy about Lufia 1, but come on... LUFIA 2. Good soundtrack, good story, solid gameplay and tough puzzles, ANCIENT CAVE...

It's possible he only played Lufia 3 and/or 4. Those are regarded as the "worse of the series", Lufia 2 the "best", and Lufia 1 the "middle". It's all subjective. You could hate or like them all. Though... I've played Lufia 1 start to finish twice, while Lufia 2 only once...

I don't have a pick right now (can't really think of that bad of an RPG, besides Legend of Dragoon which isn't anything horrible, just not good).

RPG's that have let me down though:
- Breath of Fire III - Being a gigantic fan of BoFIV, I really had high hopes for this game. I've seen tons of people claim it's superior to BoFIV, but I just can't seem to find out why.

Maybe it's just because I've only played about 12 hours of the game? But maybe not? It just seemed a little boring, frustrating at times, a little childish, and so forth. It just didn't really grab my attention as IV did (which is quite possibly one of my top favorite RPG's).

- Legend of Mana - Nothing horrible, but nothing fantastic. Wherever you place your stories on the map, it doesn't make too much of a difference, and only being able to control the main character in battles got a little tedious.

Overall, I just don't think LoM comes even close to the greatness that SoM and SD3 had.

I haven't touched the GBC or GBA Lufias but I know that a lot of people are... kinda down on them. :\ That surprises me since GBA Lufia actually looked decent... I'll see eventually.

I know GBC Lufia looked complex with all the different party members.

Well I have to say pokemon games hgave started to annoy me! I mean its the same battle system everygame. Same story ling everygame! I more recently it's been regions that people have visited 1000+ times. I heard somthing about a pokemon game for DS, probably wont get it though because of how upset I've got with the series but anyways this is why I dont like the pokemon games anymore.

Might be the same battle system but it's also a good one as well.

Heck, Dragon Quest/Warrior has used the same battle system since the dawn of time and it works just fine. It's upgraded but never modified.

I had no idea so many liked it (or new about it, for that matter)... What about Lunar 2? Anyone ever played that? I haven't... I wonder what it's like.

You have a good point. I should've thought about that part before actually saying it. It's an easy story to follow, which is a good thing. I actually understand what the whole game is about, and haven't played it in a while.
