Music has influence on our emotions, it can make you happy... or sad. I was just wondering, have any of you ever heard a song so sad that it actually brought you to tears? Not because of any life event you may have experienced that it reminded you of (for example, if its the song that was playing when you found out a loved one died or anything like that). I mean has a song ever, entirely on its own merits, been able to get that strong of a response from you.

Sometimes songs will randomly bring me to the verge of tears, but it's entirely random.

"People of the World", by J-FRIENDS is such a moving song, the words...if you could understand them of course (its in Japanese..) are just touching, the tune is touching, and its a compilation of some of the greatest male vocals and...blah it makes me wanna cry ToT

Love songs always ALWAYS make me miserable. I also usually end up with a tear in my eye. God, I hate love in the world.

"Star-Stealing Girl" from Chrono Cross has a very saddening effect on me. Though, it may be because of what it evokes, i.e. the death of Lucca in the fire and the loneliness the young Kid will have to confront being twice orphaned.

In fact, much of Chrono Cross' music is sad and depressing, hence I don't like to listen to it all the time.

Lakithunder - are you almost at tears because you dislike love in general, or is it because the love song is so hideously ill-conceived that you cant stand it?

I was stuck in a car with a techno remix/crazy frog medley version of Queen's "We Are the Champions".

That brought me to the brink of tears.

I know that's not what you meant, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I've also been near tears before at how dreadful some songs are, that would be an interesting topic in itself!

Music doesn't really do that for me.. but Ai Wa Ryuusei (some image song from Gundam Wing I think ) was pretty damn sad at one point. And VNV-Nation - Beloved is sad too, not boohoo sad, but sad.

Heh, doesn't really happen for me (I feel like I want to fly or it gives me a glorious feeling or something, I dunno).

Hmm, even though I think Chrono Cross's OST is one of the best in games, I'd have to agree with you here. Every song screams out emotion, there's a lot of epic stuff, moving, and saddening emotions in those songs in that game I'd say.

Other than that I guess I haven't really listened to a lot of music thats put me on the verge of tears. I usually listen to Metal, and well that gives me more of a glorious feeling than anything else (I stick to the traditional stuff and European stuff), but I've heard a lot of emotional stuff from some videogames. For some reason, Breath of Fire IV comes to my mind, and some of the Suikoden games.

Two songs have nearly moved me to tears, both rap songs coincidentally. Dance With the Devil and You Never Know, both by Immortal Technique.

But, I have been given goosebumps, however, only by the Grateful Dead. After certain solos, in songs like Franklin's Tower, my hair has been known to stand up.

I tend to be able to borrow the mood of whatever music is playing for myself, should it be good enough. Comes in handy when I need to get angry and take down tricky people. ...Or go insane. XP

Which album is "Do You Realize" on? I like the Flaming Lips.

The only song which has actually made me cry is called "Are You Hungry Joe" and is about the homeless. So I guess I'm a big softy

Why do you think emo kids cry?

The music brings them back to the moment that causes them all the grief they feel
