| Yes, the PS3 is a sort of 'trojan horse' to get Blu-ray players into homes. The idea being if everyone already has a PS3 that plays Blu-ray movies, they'd buy those over HD-DVD which requires a separate player. Of course, this is assuming a number of things - the movies come out on BD, the next Xbox doesn't play HD-DVD (or doesn't come out for a while), BD players are expensive, the PS3s are a hell of a lot more durable than PS2s, etc.
If it works it'd be a big win for them, but it's quite a risk. Originally posted by Boom.dk Hah. Puerto Rico only got 500 PS3s. 90% of which were stocked in stores in the metro area. The rest of the island got only 50-60. The local EBGames had but three. There were over 200 preorders in that store alone. Makes me glad I'm not interested in one, otherwise I'd be in deep shit. Edit: Originally posted by Colin

I was really liking this thread. It was one of the first where I was able to have a matter-of-fact analysis of the business practises of the companies without people shitting on everything. God, I hate you Lakithunder. You're the bane of the intelligent human's existence. Back to the track though. Yeah, Wii will outsell the PS3 for at least the remainder of this year. The production of the PS3 is dismally slow and seemingly plagued with logistic problems. But I'm still stunned with the brilliance Sony put forward in how they're marketing the system. It is a lower per-capita loss by selling the more expensive system in the long-term. Only to have the incentives placed on the, ultimately, cheaper system for them. Man, that's some smart shit. |

| I don't want to see any console fail but I hope that the PS3 gives Sony a good reality check. The odds are that they'll have learned their lesson the next time new consoles come around.
