quirk [kwurk]
-noun

1. a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism.
He is full of strange quirks.

So. What are your quirks?

Some of mine:
・When eating a meal, I never take a few bites of one thing then move on to something else. I always eat one type of food at a time -- for example, if I had a plate with turkey, mashed potatos, and peas on it, I would eat all the peas first, then eat all the turkey, then all the potatos.
・I cannot sleep if there are visible lights in the room. I currently have my Donnie Darko DVD propped up against my external hard drives so that I can't see the LEDs.
・Another thing that keeps me awake is socks. I cannot sleep if I have socks on.
・I refuse to take headache medicine, unless my head is really splitting. I don't like the idea of taking painkillers when it isn't strictly necessary.
・When I was a kid I used to hiss like a snake when I got mad. Thankfully I've grown out of this one.

That's one of my quirks too. I always eat my side dishes before moving on to the main course.

Just now, I finished eating my lunch from Quiznos. I ate all of my chips before moving on to the sandwich.

Another quirk I can think of right now is that I hold a pencil in a different way. A lot of people in the past tried to show me how to hold a pencil right but I refuse on doing it their way.

I know this is quite common, but not stepping on the cracks while walking on a sidewalk; I take different steps every time to avoid it. Another one would probably be that I enjoy eating standing up, it's just more comfortable for me, it doesn't matter what type of food.

* When talking, I pace around the room constantly, sometimes even falling over on things, but never really stopping.

* I have a tendency to dance and spin around when I walk, similar to the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz.

* I never sit still, instead sort of fidgeting. The worst thing to do is give me one or more rotating chairs; then I put my feet on one nearby, or even start spinning around in the chair I have.

* Tendency to cough and clear throat for dramatic license, sometimes to express disdain.

* Usage of large words which I've read but never pronounced, resulting in bad prononciations and confused people.

* A dislike for wasting any food, whatsoever. I'll eat stuff I hate just so it doesn't get thrown out.

* At times, I hum remixed tunes I've made up.

* Tendency to make clicking noises at birds, in an attempt to make them do something other than sit around.

* When angry, I pick up soda cans and crush them.

* Tendency to screech (ala Ridley) to freak people out when I'm annoyed or feel like people are trying to ignore me.

* General tendency to use logic to cause people's arguments to fly around and hit them instead.

* I tend to rant on and on like an old person, telling the same story over and over, and seemingly never ending it.

* When I see some sort of dancing on a TV or otherwise, I am compelled to mimick it.

* Mock the people who are disliked by imitating their gestures and gait in an exagerrated fashion.

* Usage of German entirely to confuse people; statements like 'I eat all the lamps!'

* Tendency to get angry at, shake fists at, and pound on computers when they don't act correctly.

* Spinning around when it's windy.

That's just a few... I'm weeeiiiird.

When I get excited, I have to stand up.

When I start thinking, I have to walk. And not just pacing walk, I mean from one end of the house to the other.

I also tend to mimic friends' quirks, just to bug 'em.

Write other options below:

* I stand out in the rain when it, uh, rains. Even if it usually results in me getting very wet and very cold. (but then again...)

* I bite/pick my nails/scabs/whatever. I also have a bad habit of biting my lip. :\

* I've been known to do nothing but sit around with a GameBoy speaker against my ear for hours before.

(I'm not really that quirky, I swear)

The scab thing, drawing weird symbols in blood if the end result is appropriately fluid.

I also tend to make psychotic faces when discussing things I like, and when there are small children near.

I also speak leet on various occassions.

Edit: The logic thing made worse by speaking like a Vulcan, and getting unnecesarily depressed at coding failures.

I do that exact same thing. Must be a common one.

I cant sleep if there are any sounds to latch my consciousness onto. Like people talking or a television set/radio in the background. Instead of sleeping i cant stop following the music or conversation.

I almost did that one to, but for me i would bare my teeth like I was a dog growling.

Visible lights and constant noises (like a computer fan) can keep me from getting to sleep. The TV in the living room, however, does not bother me.

When I get angry, I punch things. Inanimate objects, never a living creature. This frequently results in a lot of pain. I haven't hit a person in anger in quite a while, though I have hit my computer a few times. A few dozen times...

I use big words when talking to people, and get confused when they don't know what I'm talking about. It doesn't help that I talk faster than most people.

I am uncomfortable eating around more than one person, and so I frequently eat in my room.

People walking around near me when I'm sitting make me nervous.

I find myself irritated by even the smallest sounds. Blind in one eye, though, so maybe my ears are more sensitive.

I sometimes stare blankly out the window, at a wall, or at the ceiling for minutes at a time, even though there's nothing special there.

My room's a mess, but I'm annoyed by (and sometimes try to fix) any disorganization in a store.

K. I can't sleep (or rather, sleep very badly) if I don't have something on top of me, including but not limited to two comforters, couch cushions, pillows, whatever. Then again, I just like it all the time (like when laying on the floor, I'll put the footstool upside down on my back or something)

To name a few...
  • I also eat only one food at a time, and drink huge amounts of whatever beverage is available while I do so. I've been known to down an entire 2-liter bottle of pop during one meal, and have only one or two glasses at other times during the day.
  • I often quietly say "ahhhh" when I fart as if it were a huge relief. This was a joke me and a friend made up in like grade 4 that I just never stopped doing.
  • Unless I'm like so tired I fall asleep as soon as I stop moving, I can not sleep without socks (unless I'm completely naked) and some sort of blanket on, even when it's really hot. I use a bedsheet for those days. I can sleep naked, but it results in me constantly feeling I need to take a leak even right after doing so.
  • I look around randomly.
  • If I wake up by an alarm clock (or several), I always fall asleep for another hour after turning them off. If a person wakes me up, I tend to fall asleep for a while then wake up later with absolutely no memory of the person waking me up. Curiously, this is identical to Sailor Moon's wakeup procedure.
  • I don't hold my pencil the usual way (I slip it between my index and ring fingers), nor type the usual way (I move my hands constantly pressing almost all keys with my index fingers). I can do both better than a lot of people can the usual way.
  • When bored, I grab a pen and paper and start drawing. Often, I do this without any idea what I intend to draw, leaving me holding a pen staring at a blank sheet for 20 minutes trying to think of something to draw.
  • I use smilies like crazy, particularly and .
  • If there's music playing and I'm not focused on anything, I WILL move some part of my body to the beat. I also tend to shake my leg vigourously at random when sitting, for no real reason.
  • I can fall asleep with a TV left on, but if it's at the right volume, I'll hear the dialogue in my dreams. This results in strange dreams based around the dialogue.
  • I have some sort of hearing problem in which background noises seem to overtake nearby ones. I haven't had it checked out but this seems to be the case. I can hear people talking just fine unless there's some sort of background noise, even if it's quieter than them. It's a bit like a loss of the ability to hear high tones, except I notice no such problem with music or TV.

Yeah, I'm weird.

Metal Man88: I like the crushing soda cans idea. Good stress relief.

I should mention now I do theh same as HH, namely I require something above me. This has resulted in me under a comforter (or worse, two).

It gets worse when you consider that one of those times, my room was nearing 100°F (37.78°C).

I like crushed ice. I like to chew on it and all that stuff, too... especially with soda. But then again, I like snow-cones too, so

I'm also extremely good at this -- my mom will come in, tell me to do something (or to get up, whatever), I'll sit up and confirm it (usually by going "uh-huh"), and then fall asleep again... but I won't remember anything! It's happened at least 4 times now, and each time it's usually something really important. (I even tried to work around it by telling her to make sure I got OUT OF BED, and she still just kind of went "are you awake?" and I responded yes, even though I wasn't... I slept in too late again)

Of course, this isn't helped by the fact I can sleep through an alarm going off for 30 minutes in a row.

Only 37? I've had 45°C, and still had to sleep with a bed sheet.

Yep, that's me. I'd tell my mom to make sure I was actually awake, and she'd come in and wake me up, and I'd fall asleep again. Half an hour later I'd wake up and ask why the hell she didn't wake me up.

In order for me to go to sleep, I have to have a light source, music, and some other background noise in order for me to get to sleep. Music has to be a mix between anything and something with a loud beat.

Whenever I play a game on my laptop, I need my TV on.

I eat constantly. I don't eat a lot in one sitting, but all day I munch a lot.

When I am bored off my mind, I usually I stare at something and lose my train of thought. I even thought I fell asleep in class.

I always type with my two middle fingers. I took a typing class and passed, but I always type with two fingers.

Also when I'm bored, I stare at a person without moving at all except for breathing. I think I scare people by doing that.

That is all I can think of right now.

I sometimes translate my thoughts into other languages.

Tendency to a more obstacle-filled route when going somewhere, even if it takes longer.

I hate eating around people I don't know.

I hate when people sit just to the right of me.

I hate when people hold the door open for me.

When I have my hand on a desk or something, I tend to discreetly make invisible shapes with my fingers.

I usually play new songs I get on repeat until I'm sick of them.

I sometimes feel uncomfortable without chewing gum.

There is one seat I always have to sit in on the bus (Somehow, it's always free, even when the bus is nearly full ).

I usually hate to be touched (no sick jokes plz ).

Repetetive small noises really annoy me.

I get uncomfortable when the door to the room I'm in is left open.

I can't leave my house with my laptop on.

I can't leave my phone on when it's not with me.

I thought I'd only get about 3 when I hit that New Reply button. I'm weirder than I thought.

Let's see...

If there's any small, plastic objects nearby while I concentrate on something (e.g. programming), I inevitably unconsciously pick them up and start chewing on them.

I often speak in a tediously slow and considerate manner, using words and grammatical structures that normally never would occur in spoken language or often even post-1900AD literature.

I often look over my shoulder or generally around me in a manner that might make other people think I am paranoid.

I tend to stare at people to a point they are highly disturbed or think I am a psycho. The reason for that is that I just keep looking at whatever I just was looking when I change from "optically evaluate environment mode" into "thinking about not related to real world matters mode".

In conversations, on the other hand, I tend to notoriously look away from my conversation partner.

I use internet speech a lot in real life. You will hear me saying "lol", "rofl" and even "XD" (as in the single letters).

I tend to become clumsy in a funny way when I think about different things than what I am doing at the moment (which is 99% of the time).

The "eat stuff I can't stand just so it doesn't get thrown away" thing Metal Man88 mentioned applies for me as well.

I tend to close my eyes when I nod in agreement or shake my head in disagreement of something for no apparent reason.

When idle, I start humming or whistling random melodies.

Same here, my pencils tend to have the rubber grip torn off of them from taking tests at school.

When pages are loading i tend to minimize and maximize them in rapid successions.
