Well I am thinking of starting a new hack while waiting for Link2006 to finish up with the current SML remake hack's levels and other odds and ends. What I have in mind is that in this new hack, you play as mini-mario. You know the toy mario from the MvDK games. I am planning on having levels being toy or mechanical themed. The enemies will also be toy or mechanical as well.
But I need some ideas. I think that I should disable the mushroom powerup. But mini-mario would be able to get firepower. I was wondering if anyone has some cool ideas for enemies, powerups, levels, or even the plotline. Also if anyone knows of any games that might have tiles and whatnot that would fit, feel free to share Here is the mini-mario sprites that I made for the player. I have not hacked with SMW for a while and I am kinda rusty. I will see what I can do. |

MvsDK is probably my overly favourite game
Probably you could rip the graphics of it. I myself used some of them in my hack. Enemies could be Mini-Bowsers and Mini-Koopas and Mini-Goombas or whatsoever. Maybe you could make that Bowser stole all Mini-Toys and one of the Mini-Marios has been lost somewhere or something kinda like that. After every castle, you could have another Mini-Mario rescued. The Powerups? Hm... My ideas all vanished. |

Awww... You took my idea before I could make it... Well, disable the Mushroom, but add the special ExPower-Up Patch so you can be Small Fire Mario, or, in this case, Fire Mini Mario. By the way, awesome GFX. | |||

Yeah, MvsDK has a completely different graphics style than your mini-Mario. You should use its prerendered graphics as reference but draw new sprites in your own black outlined style.
Puzzle levels probably are the proper direction to take this hack, but try making them longer than a screen or two. One screened puzzles just can't be very complicated with SMW's engine. |

What do you want a mushroom to do? You can easily change what action to take when Mario touches a mushroom with a hex editor. Or if you don't ever want Mario to get powered up, simply don't put power ups in the game. | |||

Ahh, gotcha. Would Bio's ExPower-up patch work for that? I'm pretty sure it allows small fiery Mario. | |||

Try applying it to a clean ROM and then moving over whatever graphics and levels you have completed. Here's the original thread about the patch which might have answers to any questions you have about it. | |||

Looks like I am going to drop this project. The mini fire mario patch just makes the graphics too difficult to fix. But I might start on Super Maria Sisters again. ^^ |
