This sounds like it should've been a bad plot to a novelette or something.

Just...wow.

Well, there's still hope from Nintendo's launch. Let's wait patiently.

Line dummies, huh. I have to say I agree with the guy who wrote the article; if you're poor, getting paid ~200$ to stand in line is a great deal. But it's quite a nefarious practice to buy as many PS3s as you can just to resell at two or three times the SRV.

I highly doubt the Wii launch will go any better unless Nintendo goes to specific lengths to quell people who would repeat this.

Hmm. Looking through the last few comments near the bottom of the article, it seems the law of supply and demand is somewhat coming back to bite these people in the ass-there are SO MANY PS3s up for auction that the price is down around $750 on average (This is about a 25% profit. Good, sure, but a far cry from the 300% or so we were hearing about with the PS2 and other systems).

Oddly, enough Nintendo decided to launch the Wii in the US first... So there might be more riot from fan boys not getting their Nintendo fix soon enough.

I love riots. They make me laugh. This seems...sick though. PS3 riot? I'd like to have been there.

Riots are pretty sad though, just a reminder how stupid the world can be at times.

That Kotaku article was excellent.

I'm more interested to see how sales go in Japan over the next few weeks... or if the DS outsold the PS3 this week.

Well, given that I've drifted into the pro-Nintendo gaining big ground this generation camp...I'd really like to see if it is numerically possible for the PS3 to outsell the DS. Does anyone know how the recent shipments of DS stack up to PS3?

Some people just like their gaming. People are going to die when the Wii gets released.

DS shipments have been extremely steady in Japan and it's not uncommon for the system to sell 100,000 units in a given week.

If the DS decides to have one of those weeks, Sony will have some egg on their face.

That would be pretty damned funny if Sony got beat out by a nearly two year old system.

The BBC actually picked up on the story here.

You can't blame Sony at all for this dark side of the launch aside from the launch numbers, but I hope nobody in North America is giving homeless people enough money for a few bottles of hooch just so they can stand in line for them.

Lol, so the majority of PS3 customers were just Chinese guys buying them to sell later? The article at first makes it sound like Sony hired them to create hype, but further on it clarifies.

No... Chinese guys buying them for Japanese people who were too lazy to stand in line. The guy gets a few bucks, the new owner sells on eBay.

Someone walked out of a store with a Ps3 and someone was waiting for him outside with a gun; demanding his Ps3 and all of his money. The kid said no and was shoot in the chest.
