Just patch SH's different Luigi GFX patch to your rom and flip flop the graphics. Then use SH's status bar editor to change the Mario in the status bar to Luigi.

Luigi uses the same graphics as Mario, unless you use the Seperate Luigi GFX Patch, which places some freaky-looking Luigi GFX uncompressed at the end of the ROM (meaning you must open the ROM itself in YY-CHR, and you can't find it in any of the GFX.bin files, even AllGFX.bin).

The patch doesn't change anything except the fact that there's no Luigi GFX at the end of the ROM (which is what the patch adds). And by the way, the patch he's talking about is the same one I told you to use- Seperate Luigi Graphics. People can call it whatever they want, but it'd still be the same patch.

Edit: And also, he was saying that the patch was "Smallhacker's Different Luigi GFX" patch. Smallhacker is a user on this board, by the way.

This is a simple question. All you need to do is change the colors in Mario's pallette to the colors used in Luigi's pallette. This would probably be easier for you to do, if you need to ask questions like these. If you want to keep Mario a pallette swapped Luigi clone, the that's all you need to do. Otherwise you need to rip Luigi's GFX from Super Mario All Stars & World into GFX 32.

No matter which one you do, you need to open GFX28.bin, 2BPP (GB), ans swap around Mario and Luigi's names.

The readme file for my Separate Graphics patch says "This patch should be applied to a clean SMW ROM.". The reason for this is that the uncompressed graphics and the new code needs almost two banks (if I recall correctly), meaning that it's very likely that it overwrites existing data.

Oh, sorry. I thought I applied it to an edited SMW ROM last time I used it... My bad. Sorry for causing so much confusion (if any) here.

that why ASM patch are the best since they can easly be edited to change the adress the code will be wrote to

Geez, you've posted this at every SMW hacking forum you could find. Stop making graphics editing so difficult.

Other people have already done the work of sticking Luigi graphics into their hacks. Download a hack that already has Luigi as the main character. (There's an unlocked one here that should have just what you're looking for) Open the hack in Lunar Magic and extract the graphics by hitting the red mushroom. Open the Graphics folder, copy Gfx32.bin, and paste it somewhere else.

Now, open your own in-progress hack and extract its graphics. Grab the Gfx32 from the Luigi hack and paste it on top of your hack's Gfx32. Insert the graphics back into your hack by hitting the green mushroom. Change Mario's palette to Luigi's, and voila! Luigi's your main character.

You know what's better than ASM patches?

DPPS, Dynamic Position Patching System

...to bad that I haven't started coding it yet... I've wanted to for a long time.

first of all i do not like you telling me to shut up. i am just asking a question and i am not getting the help i need. the advice you gave me is not even the correct info i need. what i exactly need is to have the graphics from smas both luigi and mario. i want them to look different not the same. i want luigi to be thin and mario to be fat just as in smas. plus it is hard to follow the directions you give when you do not even explain exactly how to do it.

Um, no one in this thread told you to shut up... You just copied and pasted that exact reply from your thread at SMW Central. People have told you exactly what you need to know many times over. It's up to you to put it into practice.

Well, gee...maybe you're not "getting the help you need" because you DIDN'T EVEN SAY IN THE FIRST PLACE that you wanted BOTH Mario and Luigi in the game:

Right there. That's exactly what you asked for, and that's exactly what you got. You didn't even mention Mario until your last (angry) post. And yet, even without that vital piece of info, the first reply to this thread suggested a patch that does exactly what you require--and it still wasn't good enough for you!

I hate to break it to you, but inserting and loading the graphics manually is a complicated process that involves lots of ASM knowledge and a decent understanding of the SNES hardware. I seriously doubt anyone is willing to explain the process step-by-step just because you don't want to use an existing patch. All you can do is either learn ASM, or learn to live with the solutions graciously provided by those that have already done so. We're not your personal servants.

I'm suspending your approval for a few days. Maybe when you come back you can try and show a little gratitude for the help we provide here, even if it isn't exactly what you're looking for (and maybe try to be a bit more descriptive when it isn't).
