Am I the only one who thinks this game was ruined because of the fact they gauged all of the flavor out of it?

The "alert" option is something I loved to see (and was loving it when I turned it on) -- it's nice.

Other than that... it just sucks to have such a fun game nuked and made generic.

As long as there's panel turning goodness on my GBA (Well... DS), I'm happy. I thought TA was way too sugarcoated for my tastes. As are most Yoshi games.

Puzzle League came out? Wow, how did I miss that one. They kept the Pokemon elemnts I guess? It would be nicer if it was based more on the character's in-game personalities like the GBC version did, as opposed to their TV personas like the N64 introduced. Still, its a puzzler I don't have (in this form) so I might try and pick it up some time.

Not even based off PPL: it's now just another generic game with no sort of story or anything.

It's based off some part of a Gamecube game (something that had to do with a collection of puzzle games). I know this for a fact because I have a GBA based game that looks exactly like it that I've had for a full year now. Didn't have Dr. Mario in it, though.

Personally, it was made too easy. If I'm hitting 30,000 in Time Trial with minimal effort, then something's wrong there.

The controls are tight, and the difficulty is a great challenge (level 16, I will beat you eventually...).

I do miss whatever characters they might have put in, but it plays great, and that's what I'm most impressed with.

The game did get good reviews to be honest.

Somehow I think that this would have been a great combo pack for Nintendo to hold off on and put on the DS for Wi-Fi.

I beat the level 20 CPU only once, but I'm referring to the ROM. The game is out meanwhile also in Germany, but the German translation is horrible (way too straight) and the cart is relatively expensive (about 40 Euros ... since I'd need a GBA and are unemployed until March 06).

If I had a GBA I would buy it nonetheless, although I'd feel weird with taking this thingie into the bus (I'm 24. well ... ). But having the ability to move different-shaped and -colored blocks is nice, althought, as Hiryuu said it, there is little challenge. Even me beat the level 20 CPU two or three times, although it took a very long time - my longest chain also is only a x16 without garbage. Scoring about 10k is too easy.

Other than that, it is nice to play on the other side. It simply is PdP, although somehow static, but it features at least some fun. The bad thing is, that multiplayer requires a game for every GBA (if I'm not mistaken) and selling two warmed up (even if it is PdP) games for the full price - that just sucks. But Nintendo is right - as long the people even will pay this, their strategy might right.

I hope the good old "Nintendo thinks more about us gamers!!" argument is shown to all people they are not doing this, since some think they just won't earn money pretty easily - what it fact Nintendo is, like any other brand. That's nothing bad, just normal, but old games for full prices are as bad as selling something like Metroid for a lot of money, where you can get the NES cart even cheaper if found on Ebay.

As for Dr. Mario: Very poor, Nintendo.
You even didn't made changeable backgrounds for it, the music sounds really bad (PdP's music at least doesn't distract you very much - and it has a lot more options, although some of them are more like the small cherry on top of the cake), the sound effects want me to turn off everything and Dr. Mario simply seems half-done only.

I don't like Dr. Mario at all, but the NES and SNES version at least featured some nice graphics and music.

Yes, this whole game seem slike it was watered down and just left alone, no one put any real effort into it.

Dr. Mario seems even worse off. Jeez...

I used to love Dr. Mario too...I still play Tetris + Dr. Mario on the Super Nintendo...I'll pick this up none the less, but, I really wish they could have just put a little bit more into this..

I actually considered getting this, as the only version of this game I have is Pokemon Puzzle League (GBC)... But it doesn't sound like it's really worth it.

This is only, what, the THIRD incarnation of Dr. Mario on the GBA? Don't get me wrong, I like Dr. Mario more than most, but that's a little overboard.

Dr. Mario seems... I dunno... more combo-friendly.

And by that, I mean you get a CRAPLOAD of points for combos now.

The only redeeming factor about Tetris Attack A-hack (this version) is the Lv. 20 CPU.

Human (Game Lv 3)
<VS>
CPU 20 (Game Lv 3)

I won. After 40 minutes and 41 seconds.

This game knows how to drag out the battles.... too bad the "Alert" option doesn't show the CPU's alert status, otherwise it'd be better.

...although this still doesn't makeup for gutting the game.

You're caring way too much about the presentation. So it doesn't have characters, or spiffy TA music. Does it really matter? It's essentially the same, fun, panel switching game we've all come to love. That does it for me. I'm picking it up as soon as possible.

Except that one of my favorite modes (1P VS, aka "Story") was removed, a lot of the 'presentation' was removed, and so were a lot of customizability options.

It just pisses me off they made it such a boring generic game when they could've taken three seconds and made it a great one.

Would be pretty hard to put original characters in the game though. The game is Puzzle League, not PdP/TA/PPL.

They could have gone with one of the old identities, couldn't they? They had Dr. Mario, combine it with Tetris Attack (Yoshi) and you have the "Mario Puzzle Pack"

Yeah but they decided in the end to just use the same name for all 3 regions.

Originally I think they wanted to do PdP for Japan, TA for Europe and PPL for North America. That changed.
