01 - Not bad, I guess... setting up the home page for later assignments, since we haven't technically learned anything yet.

02 - A list using various styles. Heh, I didn't know about some of those. Nifty.

03 - javascript rollovers... er, ok, not the best thing, but I guess...

04 - Ok, now we're cooking. Getting table cells to be nice and even and aligned, not to mention a good use of my boring test page... Not hard, but interesting.

05 - More of the same, but wtih pictures and trying to get everything to show up right... eh, not bad, but...

06 - Image maps. Oh well, I can just save this guy's face as "uglymug.jpg" and use it, hehe... nice to know they're always busted in XHTML 1.1 though. <sigh>

07 - ...the only redeeming thing in this assignment was watching him try and make a working form. It took him about ten tries.

(this is where we are, now; everything else is my comments on what we'll have to do)

08 - Nice sample. This is only teaching the most basic thing and is leaving out the most important part: good taste and a sense of style. Arrrhghgh...

09 - Yay! javascript! *puke* -- but it gets better:

Also look at Java Script which is the thing that will make your page behave like it was done by a professional.
*barf*
(note: JS can be good, but 99% of the time it's excessive and unneeded)

10 - Awesome, PHP. Maybe people can learn something out of this class. Too bad I already know it...

11 - A 1024x768 background at 20kB? *BARF* ... but wait, FRAMES? ARRRRGH

12 - The only thing different is thumbnails. Still sucky, still makes me want to puke. Also note that you can't use frames if you have javascript disabled. Nice.

13 - Using table cells as buttons (why? Hi, ) and a marquee tag. Urggghhhh...

14 - ...a javascript photo slideshow. Sigh...

15 - ...and now required WMA and WMV files. No, AVI and MP3 aren't allowed.

16 - a Java photo slideshow. It never ends, does it? *pounds head into wall*

17 - and now a DuhHTML photo slideshow. *rips hair out*

Also note that these probably have to work in IE and not "Foxfire" (or any other sensible browser, even IE 7 -- yes, it works, shut up)... every problem is always "Foxfire"'s fault because it works "wrong". Graah.

Any other moronic professors/teachers out there, or am I all alone in my suffering? =P

Oh dear God, who put this guy in charge? Reminds me of the people running my school's computer network. The librarian and one of the programming teachers were the only ones who knew jack about security, but they had no authority in this sector.

Your teacher looks like a pedophile IMO. Maybe that explains it.

It's that second-to-last paragraph that seals the deal for me. lololol does have its flaws, sure, but that doesn't mean it acts "wrong". And every problem is NOT caused by it. I feel as though if it's my civic duty to direct him to an deathtrap for IE6, riddled with spyware, viruses, and shit. Things that will cause problems for him, an IE user. After all: it's not lololol's fault IE is vulnerable to that sort of thing. And if that's not enough for him; a site that will screw up both FF and IE. Assignment 15 is also pretty silly: WMV is fine to some extent - although it shouldn't be used if possible (which it is). But WMA? Why the hell...?

I submitted it here, too. Feel free to vote for it, maybe even get it on the front page (3 votes)

But yes, WMV isn't bad. WMA? Yes. I'd rather use a .MP3 from YTMND...

...actually, I think I will. I've been considering this YTMND as a homepage for the end of the semester

Of interest, this is my homepage and assignment list. Compare with a friend's, too.

Also note I have the 5th lowest grade in the class (#6920)

At least all the "Intro to Computers for Dummies" classes I've taken haven't required anything suitably off the wall. Heck, once I got to skip the last few lab classes because I was that far ahead of the pack.

See, I'd skip these, except attendance is a grade.

Wow... what the hell is the point of his assignments? This is stuff that I could learn in less than a day.

I'm just to damn lazy.

There was the COBOL teacher... who said, "Next time, I'll have a CD of myself talking instead of having to actually be here for the online class first day. That way, I don't ever have to see you in person!"

And the german teacher, who was Swiss, knew Swiss German, and had only recently learned English.

Ugh.

Also, I laugh at that HTML, I learned that sort of stuff on my own, through some moldy 'HTML 2.0' book back when it was new. Of course, I'm nuts, so maybe normal people need that sort of class. Definately not a class for you, Xkeeper, though, as your skills blow me out of the water, and... that class is below me.

I'm reminded of the Visual Basic class I was in. It took me a max of 5 minutes to do the assignments, most of which was load time. My favourite was making a clock:

ahhhhhhh I would hate to take your class. Why exactly did you feel the need to sign up for it anyway (much less, pay for it)? Could've learned most of it simply by comparing it to HTML4.01 (<html>, <head>, <body> are required in XHTML; almost all styling tags/attributes are removed; redundant or useless tags removed; etc)

He should be fired for stupidity.

This kind of reminds of a computer class I took in high school when I was the only one in the class that didn't get a passing grade on a web page assignment because I hand coded the html instead of using FrontPage (I "didn't follow instructions").

I got a good laugh out of his web pages, though. Why does he have pictures of random locations on every page without so much as a link, or some explaination of why its there, or what it has to do with anything? And why does he have the date overlapping the w3c logo, so you can barely read either of them? And why is there a little black and white photo of him smirking at the top of every page?

That's the "back" button. Good luck finding that out without using one of my pages (hint: link in sig).

Oh, ok, I didn't know that meant back. From now on when I design web pages, I'm going use a picture of an old man smirking for a back button.

Yeah, it's a universal constant that all teachers/lecturers who teach HTML for a living will be washed up bums who couldn't get a proper job doing it. You can tell, because an experienced web developer would never, ever discard lololol as "wrong".

I think I refused to do half of the excercises in my tutorial, as I could already demonstrate that I knew how to do them.

Then I got into an arguement with the lecturer over whether Perl and Oracle or PHP and MySQL is better. He didn't seem to understand the benefit of MySQL being available literally everywhere.

He still likes me quite a lot, actually, very scary.

The only problem, even though I'm paying over $250 for this class (damn books), I still resist to voice my opinion on how much this class sucks... namely because it isn't over yet and I still have a bottom-of-the-barrel grade. Argh...
