Ok So you remember my budget computer thread. Well I decided to build it. The parts have been switched around a little but here is what I went with.
Aspire X-Navigator Case ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor (overclocked to 3.6GHz) 2GB of Corsair DDR2 800 RAM (overclocked to 1066Mhz) eVGA 7950GX2 Videocard Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Soundcard Seagate 250GB SATA 3GB/s HDD Samsung SyncMaster 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor (this thing just dwarfs my current CRT monitor) Creative Inspire 7.1 Surround Sound Speakers Samsung 18x DVD±RW Razer Copperhead Tempest Laser Mouse Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard (edited by HyperHacker on 10-04-06 12:18 AM) |

What kind of Processor?
Other than that, thiis thing must be a rocket. One thing is the ASUS board. Unless your's auto-overclocks (AI NOS), your okay. |

ROFLisberger for your links being broken. They all need quotes at the end of the URL's.
And that LCD's MEATNORMOUS. I kinda want now. |

Let's just fix those links then. Also, I want that screen.

Ah, you made a better choice in some of the parts you bought than what you were planning earlier. However, I still think the sound card is priced a lot higher than what it's really worth. What the hell is up with that mouse, though? That thing screams rip-off.

How did my links get broken? I tested them earlier after posting and they all worked fine.
The processor is a Core 2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 3.6GHz. You can also turn off the AI NOS you know. But the mouse I really like for gaming. 2000 DPI Laser engine, on-the-fly sensitivity changes.....and it's blue. The theme to this PC is basically "Beat the competition" Beat = Bruise = Black & Blue |

Depending on who made the power supply you could have just had a bad one. I purchased a brand new Thermaltake PurePower 500w PSU a few months ago, stuck it in and it blew. RMA'd and got the same one but the new new one was good.

Beats mine overall, with one minor exception. Why do LCDs often have lower max screen resolution than CRTs? I can do 2048x1536 on my 19" CRT using a custom driver, and it was $20 at the local thrift store. A lucky purchase for certain.
My previous power supply quit two days ago by the way, so I went from 300W to 350W just in case. |

LCDs have a fixed number of pixels, CRTs don't. Well, sort of. I don't know the details, but it's very possible to make a CRT do more than it was supposed to (including light on fire with many older ones ).

Yeah, that's kind of annoying. I'd need to buy a 20" LCD to use 1600x1200 when I use it on my 19" CRT already.

And for graphical stuff a tablet would be much better. :/ They aren't expensive. Mine cost no more than $20 and performs just as well as most other laser mice out there. All laser mice have "on-the-fly sensitivity changes;" and 2000 DPI is totally pointless, unless you've got amazing control and unheard of screen resolutions. In other words, mice that expensive are just sucker deals for people who think that they're going to improve their game by buying things like that. Laser mice are much better for gaming, though, as they do not stick and have noticeably better precision. And of course a tablet would be better for drawing. The way you use it is completely different and more natural for drawing than with a mouse. It probably wouldn't be too hard to make a pen-shaped optical mouse that would work just as well, though. |

Budget according to the Dictionary written by Koitenshin
As much performance that can be fit into an entire system while only costing as much money as one has at any given time. |

Sorry about double posting but I wanted people to see the new specs. That and being the center of attention is nice too.
Ok, so as we know that was to be my new baby....problems arose in my head from what was said about backlight bleeding and the performance not being up to snuff. So I set out in search of the best system I could build for about the same price ±$300 So here is what I came up with. Case Section Silverstone Lascala 20 Thermaltake Toughpower 700 watts Samsung 18x DVD±R Seagate 320GB SATA 3GB/s HDD Motherboard Section ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor (overclocked to 3.6GHz) 2GB of Super Talent DDR2 800 RAM (overclocked to 1066Mhz at 4-4-3-8) eVGA 7950GX2 Videocard HDCP Future Proof Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic Soundcard External Accessories NEC 20WMGX2 (Legendary AS-IPS Panel with a multitude of video connections, my new TV) Logitech 5.1 Surround As close to perfect audio as I'll get. (96db SNR) Razer Copperhead Tempest Laser Mouse Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard All for a grand total of $2,509.68 |
