I just want something I can use to scan Windows from Linux when I leave my computer at night. Can anyone suggest something?

As in being able to scan the drive Windows is on? The only open source AV scanner I know of for UNIX is ClamAV...

ClamAV works pretty well; there's also F-prot, and if you want to pay money McAffe has a Linux version too.

I'll try ClamAV. I seem to be having a bugger of a virus and f-prot isn't picking it up. It might have something to do with the fact that I don't really know how to use it, though.

You can also try Eset's NOD32. It offers compatibility with various Linux Distro's.

read more about it here

True you do have to buy it but at least it works a hell of a lot better than some of the stuff out there. I'd know...I've tried them all.

You're running a virus checker, do you expect it to simply skip over most of the files? Maybe Norton would do that, but seriously

I've used virus scanners for Windows and they never took that long.

EDIT: And AVG isn't on Gentoo portage and the only way to install it from the site is an RPM. Do they think that everyone is using an RPM based distro or what?

EDIT (again): I just checked my portage and appearantly there's also: klamav (I'm guessing that's the KDE frontend for clamav), vlnx, and bitdefender. How are they?

What antivirus you need?
A small programm or a big one?

try the antivirus programm Kaspersky Lab
Kaspersky Lab is good

PS: Norton for me is too bad, because the programm are not so effective
and it displays to many messages.

Xoft Spy is very good for detecting Spyware and Adware, but there
are per weak one update

Do you know what Linux is? Apparently not.

And nice bump.
