Originally posted by For The Lazy Bastards In all honesty this whole DRM shit has to fucking stop. There's too much controversy and too much money being being wasted which could be used a little more wisely, rather than being wasted on lawsuits and creating DRM applications. I cannot even BEGIN to imagine the money Microsoft is putting in to continuously update their Windows Media Player application all the time...Is it not ridiculous to even care, if it's not their concern? True, these things are being downloaded through WMP, but the copyright is ultimately not Microsofts. EDIT: Fixed the link. (edited by Rom Manic on 09-27-06 07:16 PM) |

Bleh. DRM has always struck me as a broken and anti-consumer idea in the first place.
I really think that the idea of "Fair Use" has gone down the toilet as far as the **IA are concerned. It's enough to drive one to deliberately do the wrong thing just in protest of the methods of these companies. |

That's just stupid. Seriously, what do these people hope to gain from DRM? It doesn't work, because you can easily defeat it by paying once for it, and then reproducing it with DVD recorders or whatever, and for audio? Give me a break- you can defeat it with a 3.99 cord fmo your local electronics shop. Frankly, i think DRM is both a waste of time, money, and the efforts of PR departments all over.

Which is why having such a stupid organization is a bad idea in the first place. They benefit by causing others a hassle, and they're fucking loaded. |

Its a joke. This America, a nation founded by people who like to tell Authority to "Fuck-off". Microsoft is trying to set itself up as an Authority, and you know what that means, don't you kiddies?

I find it amusing that companies spend millions of dollars on things like DVD region codes when I can just press a few buttons on the remote in most cases to make the player region-free. They need to learn that if their software can decode something, so can someone else's, and that third-party software is more than likely going to just dump it to an unencrypted format. |
