Alright, I've ranted on about this for quite sometime now at my forums, but now I'm clueless ...

Basically here's what has happened:
- Bought a Targus optical wireless mouse. Installed, worked perfectly.
- Went through 16 AAA batteries for it in less than a month.
- Decided to buy a new mouse.
- Bought a basic Dynex wired optical mouse.
- Installed the drivers, the hardware and everything, got the mouse working. And its horrible. It does not calibrate correctly or something. Randomly the cursor will go all over the place, like its lagging, or just completely out of control. I've restarted the computer countless times, messed with Mouse properties, uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, unplugged and plugged the USB plug back in, etc etc etc ...

So I got totally fed up, went downstairs and took the MS mouse we have for our family computer, which I didn't know was USB also. Plugged it into my laptop, and it does the exact same thing. It just does not calibrate correctly or something.

I put back in my wireless Targus mouse, wiith some random batteries and it randomly works for a few minutes. Thing is, -when- that mouse works its perfectly fine, unlike the wired ones I tried.

So seriously, anyone know what in the world is going on?

I use my laptop like a desktop basically, and I just hate being forced to use the touchpad and touch-stick thing in the middle of the keyboard. And no scrollbar hurts.

Could the drivers from your original mouse be screwing up the new mouse somehow? Try uninstalling the old drivers by going to Control Panel --> System --> Hardware tab --> Device Manager. Find the Targus mouse, double click it, go to the Driver tab, and click Uninstall. Then reinstall the new mouse drivers and see what happens,
