Finally, a recall I can get behind. The vast majority of salads in my household were at least 50% spinach. Now they are primarily romaine. Anyone esle happy about the recall?

Considering the recall is in response to several people getting sick and at least one person dying, I can't say I'm thrilled about it.

If it's any help, I'm thrilled about preventative measures against people dying...

I don't think anyone would be happy about anyone dying. My question is what the hell are the growers doing that allows spinach to be infected with ecoli?

They're washing it with sewage water. That's all I can think of to describe it.

What do you get in return for a recalled bag of spinach? A full refund? If so, is the who's taking the hit from all the lost sales?

I never liked spinach.. I'm more into the fruits of plants than their leaves. So to say.

I loved spinach. This pisses me off, I was thinking of having some sooner or later, but now this lame outbreak is causeing all kinds of issues and wreaking havok (i.e. Housemoms =\).

Perhaps that Ecoli came from Popeye himself!?

I saw some people eating spinach in my school's library. One person ate a weird pizza with spinach on it, while the others said 'You're gonna die! You're gonna die! The spinach is going to get you!'

...He kept on eating it, almost smiling as they freaked out at the spinach. One of them then picked up a slice of pizza nearby which wasn't spinach; he countered and related a rather strange fact: 'I found that pizza in a garbage can.'

...Yeah... people in my College are weird.

I don't eat spinach so I don't particularly care, although it seems the vast majority of it has been cleared since they figured out where the bacteria came from. That farm/company's screwed.

Interesting... not sure how spinach becomes infected with e coli, but meh.

I don't eat much spinach so it wouldn't affect me. I'm a brocolli kinda person

Isn't E. Coli from bagged spinach? From what I heard, canned spinach was fine, so Popeye had the right idea from the start.

It was the bagged stuff that was worst, I recall...

Then you had idiot store managers who'd taken the infected spinach out of the bags and sold it wholesale as fresh. Way to go guys. You keep making people ill.

Idiots.

I'm growing E. coli in a petri dish right now for a biology lab. I'll be looking at it under the microscope tomorrow night. Fun stuff.

I'm going to assume that on one of the larger spinach farms the plants were watered from water source that was infected with the bacteria either through a sewage leak somewhere or by animal feces.

That's the best guess I can come up with.

Screw spinach!! It's gross anyway. LOL

But seriously, I worry about how it could be logical for other vegetables that we like to become dangerous to eat....

I actually think they went from putting spinach on the pizzas at school to using broccoli instead, because of this.

I'm not a big fan of either one.
