So I walk in to Wal-Mart and go to the back to the Lay-Away counter like I was told to and find a bunch of other people there waiting with resume's in hand as well. They were all cruffy, poorly dressed, all looked like they just came out of some loser high-school. I just came out of a loser high-school, but at least I didn't look the part. Eventually, we were all called in. That's right: All. All approximately ten of us. See: Normally when I go to a job interview, they make individual appointments for everyone so that every hour or half an hour people come. It makes you feel like they're actually setting aside time for you. But not here. They just want to get the whole thing done and over with. We were all taken to a back room where we were told how great it is to work at Wal-Mart. Then to counterbalance that, they made us do some sort of Wal-Mart cheer. Appearantly everyone does this and they made us do this to give us the impression that if they were making us do something so stupid that we MUST have the jobs already. It went something like "Gimme a W! Gimme an A! Gimme an L! Gimme a SQUIGGLY!" at which point everyone would shake their asses. We went through all the other letters in that fashion. Then: "What does that spell? WAL-MART! Who's number one? CUSTOMER ALWAYS!" Then there some bit on how Wal-Mart number 3683 was better than every other Wal-Mart... or something. We filled out some form and were led back to the Lay-Away room again to wait for a real interview. A middle aged woman brought be to the back where some random crap was being held. A clarinet. Some Pirates of the Carribian MegaBlocks thing or something. And it was small and cramped as hell... >> She asked me a couple of the usual questions and then looked at the form I completed. Then she somehow managed to shove her 40 year old Wal-Mart dick up into my upper intestines. I didn't have two references. Me, never having a job and really never getting to know any of my teachers doesn't HAVE two references. So she told me politely to get lost and next time to bring two references. It was politely because you can't have a good bowel-fuck without lubricant... >>
I'm never applying there again. |

Wal-Mart? Requiring references?
Ahahahahahahahha! Jesus, if it's anything like Asda it'd be a god-forsaken piece-of-shit anyway. Asda payed okay, but Christ they couldn't give two shits about the people that actually do all the work. They people that make the money. Wal-Mart is all about the management, shareholders and the customer. They're the ones who benefit from paying the employee fuck all for working their ass off. I've never, ever met any more selfish, evil and backstabbing people than the management of Asda stores. It's the single worst place I've ever, ever worked at. Trust me, you're missing nothing. |

I worked there for a few months. Trust me, if your Wal-Mart is anything like my local one is, you'd be working for pretentious, over-the-hill women with no lives other than to bitch at each other and the people who work for them. The management here is so idiotic, that they were able to grossly miscalculate my days missed in a month, and tried to blame me for their own mistake. Same day that happened, I told them I had better shit to do than sit around and waste time talking to them about attendance when I had only missed 2 days. It's a much better idea to avoid somewhere like Wal-Mart where the workers are incompetent, managers are seemingly useless, and the customers, well, I'm sure you know something about those already.

I can't see how you'd want to work there anyway, unless that's really the only job you can get.

Better that you didn't get hired, lest you be forced to work unpaid overtime when they lock you in the building.

I applied once at Wal-Mart.
I was just told to fill out this form on a computer station which took some time and that is it. I just applied out of boredom so it is not like I needed the job or anything. |

Are people there so fucking illiterate and screwed up with ADHD that they need their text in small bite sized portions? God I hate that place now. |

I applied to work there a while ago too, but it never went anywhere. I didn't want to work there, but I really needed a job.
I'm glad I didn't go with it. I'm searching for a job again, but I'm not that desperate... |

Sigh, if that is the way people treat you when you aren't even working there yet, I'd hate to work there. I rarely say this, but you just have to be glad that you didn't have two references, because now you don't have to put up with them. Man I hate Wal-Mart.

Wow, that sucks. At least you got buttsecks.
In all seriousness, you couldn't get even two references? It's not that hard to put down random friends names. |

Wow, that's just scary. I think I would have left when they started doing the cheer. Before they started giving audits or serving Kool-Aide.

I always wrote down a friend's name and number, then for their job I put down the parent company for what they worked for, like if they worked for KFC, put down Tricon Global. Although I've never actually heard of a company putting any effort into contacting personal references. I think they just like to see that section of the application filled out.

Bigger companies often don't, especially if they deal with a lot of people (hiring, firing, etc.) on a regular basis. Smaller companies often do, so getting into the habit of 'fudging' your resume is generally a very bad idea. You never know when a potential employer actually will check your references. :< |
