Gleam the possible NDA breach... er, info. Confirmation should come soon at Nintendo's Japan press conference or, in a worst case scenario, tomorrow morning at the NYC press conference.

My comment from Kotaku:

I'm sure we'll hear more specifics tonight (other launch dates, what's included with the system aside from Wii Sports, possible VC lineup, etc).

$249... eeeech. That's pretty much at the max end of what I'd be willing to pay for the Wii but it's still within my price range. I'm surprised if that's the price because I would have figured that Nintendo would try for that magical $199, but maybe it just wasn't feasible. At least it comes with Wii Sports which looks like a good way to christen your Wii.

November 19th is also a strange launch date because that's just two days after the PS3 launch; then again, the GameCube and Xbox launched within three days of each other in North America, so it's not that impossible.

Can't argue with the game pricing but $5-10 for VC games... bit more expensive than I would have liked. Feels like the Live Arcade model.

Let's see how soon we can get confirmation/clarification on all this.

EDIT #1: VC pricing: 500 yen for NES games, 800 yen for SNES games, 1000 yen for N64 games. ($5/$8/$10 roughly) Add the MSX to the list of VC systems, at least in Japan. 30 Nintendo games and 30 other games (Sega/TG-16) by the end of the year, 10 new games each month. :O

If this was GameFAQs, I'd respond to this post with just YES.

Since it's not, I'd also add; seems I'm going to be making a withdrawl from my bank account soon
(And wow, I'm a bit suprised at the cheapness of the other system games)

What the fuck!? The price of the Wii itself isnīt much of a big deal but thatīs a bit too much.

They should lower the prices for each of those by 15-20%. I wonīt download games that arenīt extremely good now so I hope theyīll lower those prices.

Well, if nobody downloads one of those games for months, maybe they'll start considering lowering its price.

IDK, maybe don't download anything until it's $1

There's no use complaining about it like THAT, Trapster. You sound like everyone else who decided to complain about the pricing. And I'm sure they'll have specials/adjust stuff over time. :\ Besides, I think a lot of people will buy a game such as Super Mario 64 for $10.

And technically, the games will cost Wii Points. 500/800/1000 for NES/SNES/N64. One point = one cent, more or less. Things will be adjusted; apparently in Canada it'll cost me $24 for a 2000 point card.

The problem is, people can already play those games on their computer for free, but they have to pay $8 to play them legally?...

Not everyone knows how to play them on a computer, and some people do want to play them in front of a TV instead of a computer screen.

Ashley: HAVE HOPE. They showed a screen in the Japanese conference of the companies currently signed on to provide Virtual Console content, and Irem was listed as one of the companies; of course, they're probably the ones who own the rights to The Guardian Legend right now since Compile's toast.

Pretty awesome. Kinda pricey for a Nintendo console but I suppose if it comes with a game and - just guessing - multiple controllers (since Wii Sports is, IIRC, multiplayer and they do want to appeal to a large audience), then that somewhat justifies it. Plus free online service is a bonus.

I'm curious about VC though. I wonder what sort of copy protection they intend to use. Will we be able to download Gamecube games? Forced to buy another copy of a game we already own in cartridge form? etc.

Maybe, but theyīll most likely not add that feature.

Donīt you order games over the net. This wasnīt a GC game but I ordered Pokémon Emerald for 47$ on the net when it was new. Hadnīt even been released in Sweden. No shipping costs.

No GCN download, only Nes, Snes, and N64 for nintendo systems.
The remote and the nun-chuk are sold separately
I guess it's because most games that use it are singleplayer.
$40 US for the remote, $20 Us for the nunchuk!
I can't believe I'm shelling out almost $500 or more Canadian, just to get a few games with the console, and a remote or two...
Good new, but bad news at the same time...

I'm not in a huge rush to get the Wii or any other system. THere is nothing I'm absolutely dying to play on any of the next gen systems. I'll bide my time and see how the 1st generation systems pan out.

Well, it comes with a controller and a nunchuck. Buying them seperately doesn't bother me at all. Mainly because, as far as I know, all of my friends are buying a Wii as well, meaning we will all have controllers to play multiplayer games. There won't really be a need to buy extra controllers. The only extra controller I may get is the classic controller, but thats only if the regular controller drives me crazy.

On a Wii related note, I hate football games, but Madden '07 for the Wii looks quite fun.

Fixed.

Maybe if you owned the original carts, but seriously, Nintendo isn't going to lower prices because of emulation. If anything, they've made positive steps towards stopping it. Not that I disapprove of emulation.

They're a fraction of the price they were before, so who's complaining?

If you don't like the price, don't say you won't buy. Of course you'll buy, who else is going to make Wiis?

I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but go to this page. Scroll down to the virtual console videos. Look a the game between Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. Am I the only one who thinks that looks like BS Zelda?

I thought that was the title screen for the Japanese version of Link to the Past, actually.

And the Wii is going to be... REGION-FREE. Although some third-party companies might want to put a region lock on some games, it seems to be very import-friendly.

Then again, the first thing I'll probably do when I get my Wii is spin the globe around in the Weather Channel. XD
