Hm, I like that idea... _¬
It'd be interesting to see a counter of how many spambots this has killed.

I spotted an intersting browser string in Online Users: "PussyCat 1.0, Murzillo compatible".

I Googled it and the first result was a page that identified it as a spam bot. They also point out that it uses open proxies to try to cover its tracks.

Interesting.

Seems that it didn't get through, though. What URL was it using?

Sorry, I didn't copy down the URL. After searching the browser string I reloaded Online Users, and it was gone.

As best as I can remember, there were two of them listed, and one of them was on a calender page.

On a less than related note, this made me remember all the bizarre crap you could do for no reason other than being obnoxious. Like This shit still works. Which should of been removed ages ago just for the fact it's stupid. =P

Oh, and RPG Rev is still in affiliates, haha.

They must've sent out a lot of spambots at once to advertise their useless shit on message boards. I hope they end up like this guy did about a year ago.

You just put it in the same area as the other mySQL querys that add your username and pass to the database.

You just check if they filled in the "homepage" field, and if they did, IP ban them

Oh wait...No. Its just a hidden "Homepage" filter on the registration page. Ingenious, but I'm sure not all spambots fill in the homepage field.

Actually, the one trait XK picked up on was that they do, indeed, ALWAYS fill in a homepage. I don't know how long that'll be true for, but it's why he created that.

It's kinda pointless to register to spam if they don't fill in a homepage.

So, does anyone know if any spambots have actually gotten through this since it was implemented? I think there was only one spammer, if that.

I only recall one, and I'm pretty sure it was a manual one.

How I am stoping it right now on my board I host is that I set in the register.php to only allow 1 IP registration per day...so basicly they have to change their IP address all the time to keep spamming.

Literly I had a hit on mine and I talked to XKeeper about it and it looks like a different guy.
