Lately, I've been having some problems with my laptop... Lots of things start very slowly that have started right away before. Things like ZSNES, lololol, and even FCEU. Also, my folders don't save view settings correctly, also my icons have reverted to old settings. UT2004 crashes for no reason, when I have only played it since I installed it. No changes at all were made. Gradually, it crashed on certian maps, but on all maps now, it crashes. I can't load up the editor either.

I have not gotten a BSOD.

I've run a spyware and virus search, and got rid of some things. Also got rid of programs I didn't use. Could this also be a clogged-up registry?

The only obvious thing I could think of this is overheating. Have you tried playing it soon after a fresh cool power-on?

What happened around the time these errors started happening? Did you go to any new site or get some new window update? (On a side note: One of my programs crashed. The online crash analysis for mircosoft blamed Windows )

Sounds like Windows just breaking down as it usually does, though the spyware probably sped it up quite a bit. I could name a number of problems my current installation is having quite similar to yours. Just needs to be reinstalled.

I had to send in my laptop to get it fixed (under warranty) and when I got it back, the hinges were extremely tight. I'm thinking about sending it in again so they can reinstall the OS and fix the hinges, because they have become cracked and loose from regular use. I've got this automatic warranty renewal system that says that every time I send it in for repairs, it is under warranty and guaranteed for two years. I've lost the OS CD, which they can just send me a new one back with my fixed laptop. This particular version of the OS doesn't ask me for a product key. Weird.

But, I'm not sure what's going on. UT2004 is completely unplayable now; I didn't add any maps or anything. Everything extra was added right after installation, and has worked for quite a while. Some other things are getting better, like some programs are loading faster, while some others don't. It's just weird. My Emulation folder reverts back to old (default) view settings no matter how many times I change it the way I want it.

Methinks it be an obese registry.

When you get the OS disc, back up all your files and such, wipe the hard disk and then reinstall. Mine does similar after a while (at the moment it refuses to remember the screen resolution or certain colour settings in Hex Workshop).

BTW, they probably made a custom install disc with the product key already set.

Or, they could not have certified Microsoft software. Has it ever said anything weird when you run Windows Update?
