Every now and then, and recently I've observed happening on the internet, usually while a page is loading, my computer monitor suddenly flushes out into a color, usually a gray or a tan, which covers the whole screen. Everything still seems to be working, but the monitor will not return. In order to get my monitor back, I either have to put my computer to sleep, hibernate it, or shutdown/restart it.
HP pavilon entertainment notebook PC Microsoft Windows XP ver 2002 serv pack 2 1.7oGZ 504 mb RAM My monitor, graphics, and processor drivers are up to date. (edited by l0rca on 09-04-06 03:38 PM) |

How old's the laptop?
Do you run more than one OS on it? Does it happen in each OS also? I suspect hardware... |

Just one OS for now, but that's going to change this week when I get SuSE.
I bought it fairly recently, and the problem has been happening since I bought it. But the computer itself is an old make: 2004. It's not a virus; I don't mean to sound snooty, but I would smell it. Besides, Zone Alarm hasn't let me down yet. The problem has also been happening since I got it. Its occurance has slowed though. Some sysinfo (sorry about the lining. I'm the suck at HTML. If anyone annoyed wants to give me some code to fix this, I'll do it): OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name TORRENT System Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard System Model HP Pavilion dv1000 (ET891UA#ABA) System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1696 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard F.21, 12/22/2005 SMBIOS Version 2.31 Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32 Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1 Locale United States Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.2562 (xpsp.040919-1030)" User Name TORRENT\ryan Time Zone Central Daylight Time Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB Available Physical Memory 127.15 MB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB Page File Space 1.45 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys It seems to happen whenever there is work in the background, but it doesn't seem to be a problem with overloading. So I'm guessing it's Window's problem, or some sort of ram/virtual memory problem within Windows. *roots for Taryn to solve it* (edited by l0rca on 09-05-06 12:53 AM) |

Originally posted by l0rca Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not great with hardware; particularly laptop hardware. But that is what I suspect. I really doubt it's the OS... (edited by Tarale on 09-05-06 01:10 AM) |
